I'm not crying, you are!
Overall I quite enjoyed the film, nothing insanely special but still worth watching and a good film in my book. :)
A heartwarming sport/dog movie. Doesn't introduce any new elements but nonetheless still enjoyable.
I always find myself crying whenever the story of movies revolves around dogs. Maybe I'm just really emotional, and because I know how it feels to be a dog lover who can't bear to overlook or ignore stray dogs. It's about having a heart and compassion. This true story of Michael and Arthur is incredibly beautiful. It's worth watching and will definitely leave you with lots of PAWsitive vibes!
If you've seen the trailer, you know exactly what kind of movie this is. The one thing I didn't expect was how distinctly it shifts from being all about the race to being all about the dog instead of both parts of the story running in parallel throughout.
It starts as a mixed bag of a sports film with some good scenes (well, mostly the ziplining scene) and some moments that involve viewers enough to kind of get you pumped to go for a hike, but also some unimaginative and stiff dialogue, unrefined camerawork and - especially in the first half - some very rough editing.
As the movie progresses, it shifts more and more into the generic dog movie the marketing promises, and while it's based on a true story, clearly there has been some sugar-coating applied. It becomes manipulatively melodramatic by the end, as you'd expect, but I don't think very many people with a beating heart will remain entirely unaffected by it.
Ultimately, there are next to no surprises to be found in the story, it's not the kind of movie you will remember for a long time after watching it and you can question the creative liberties it takes. But still, it kind of works and there certainly are worse ways to spend 100+ minutes.
Just sit back and watch with no expectations, feel good movie. I like his movies, in which he relates most of family audiences... Lot better than a high budget routine crap netflix movies.
Great movie, totally worth watching. Inclusive cast doesn't irritate, Mark Wahlberg does a great job, and the dog is hard to outplay. Touching story for sure even though I usually don't like "dog" stories.
Film to reflect on animals and their gift of being so faithful.
The movie initially focused on sports and then shifted towards a plot involving dogs. However, it failed to deliver a satisfying experience in either of the genres.
Could have been done so much better… lots of useless video game dialog “let’s go!”, “over here!”. Really poor attempt at making it seem like you are watching a sports program. The narrator was awful (Bear Grylls?). The dog was the star.
I’m not a dog person. First time to come across Adventure Racing and it was a good movie to be acquainted to it.
It’s not always what you achieve but what you do right.
Just like the song in the movie, “I learned a lesson. Count your blessings”.
Objectively I don't think this is a great movie, but it pulls on enough heartstrings with the usual "dog-plot" story beats to pave over some of the shoddy filmmaking and less than compelling central plot, resulting in an enjoyable, serviceable, canine focused tearjerker. The shift in the final quarter to directly focus on the companionship between Arthur and Michael raises the movie above what I was initially going to give it; if only they'd spent more time throughout the race focusing on these moments and letting them shine.
I really enjoyed this movie. We all know that Mark Wahlberg loves acting in these true story movies and in my opinion this was one of his better ones. The action scenes were really well done and everyone in my theater was definitely rooting for the team and the dog by the end of the film. I also saw lots of tears because everyone fell in love with the all of the characters by the end of the film. I'd highly recommend a watch.

A sports movie that gradually transitioned into a dog movie, and somehow kinda failed at being both.
