Chronological order of the Matrix movies, watching in this order animatrix episodes contain spoilers for the movies!

  • Animatrix: The Second Renaissance 1-2 -> creation of the matrix
  • The Animatrix: Beyond -> unclear date, but I would watch it after second renaissance as this story shows first signs of glitches
  • The Animatrix: A Detective Story -> Trinity as a hacker, a good introduction to the movie
  • The Animatrix: World Record -> unclear date, but I think it fits between the failure of detective story and the obvious plot of the first movie
  • The Matrix
  • The Animatrix: Matriculated -> unclear date, has least connections to the main plot so I would watch this after we've learnt about the world in the first movie
  • The Animatrix: The Kid’s Story -> after Neo learns about the Matrix and definitely before Reloaded
  • The Animatrix: Program -> unclear date, but I would definitely put this episode before Reloaded and with it's plot I think it fits before the Final Flight of the Osiris
  • The Animatrix: Final Flight of the Osiris -> prelude of Reloaded
  • The Matrix Reloaded -> six months after the events of The Matrix
  • The Matrix Revolutions -> direct continuation of The Matrix Reloaded
  • The Matrix Resurrections -> many years after Revolutions

Over 1,000 films are listed in this visually arresting, full-color celebration of the silver screen. Film personalities, including actors, directors, cinematographers, and animators, write about their favorite films from a variety of angles. Martin Scorsese, Nicole Kidman, and Nick Hornby are among those who weigh in. Writers are matched to suitable (or sometimes surprising) themes and genres within the wider subject of how films can alter the course of a life. Movie stills and posters, trivia, and top-ten lists make this a book that can be dipped into or read from cover to cover. Great screen moments — endings, beginnings, kisses, death scenes — are given special spreads. The eclectic approach speaks to fans of big Hollywood blockbusters and factoid-reciting film geeks alike.
