Someone once told me, television is a flat circle. Every show we've ever watched or will watch, we're destined to watch over and over and over again. Watching this show, sometimes I'm convinced that the creators have lost their minds. But there are other times, I think I'm main-lining the secret truth of the universe.
The first season set the bar really high. It's up there with The Wire, The Sopranos and such. I hope they manage to deliver on the next season.
In my opinion one of the worst TV shows ever made. I just cant watch the whole serie without yawning and falling asleep. Its just simply boring. 4/10 (for the sex and nude scenes)
Season 4 exclusively is boring. Pushed by advertising months in advance. Delves in witchcraft or some nonsense. Far cry from reality. These should be rated separately.
Season 4 is a WOKE CESSPOOL. Watch it if you have an inferiority complex otherwise skip. Rate 0/10
Only commenting on the first season but holy shit its so good. Idk about the 2nd season. I think I started it but couldn’t get into it. It’s a completely different story per season.
This is so Boring (with the capital letter). I could not even finish the first episode of the first season.
One of those really well made TV Shows which i felt was awesome! Not all will like the show, but for me I simply loved it!
One of my favorite shows in 2014. Let's see what Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Amy Adams can add upon the unforgettable duo of Woody and McConaughey. I'm at
So I was late to the True Detective, watched it all together and I'm not really sure what the hype was all about.
I mean the performance by McConaughey was brilliant, stole the show, I think, the cinematography was perfect, but overall "detectiveness" was... lacking, to say the least. I think if you put them all together you get almost seven episodes of building characters - which was way too much - and one episode of "action" - which was far too little, mixed with beautifully shown Louisiana.
GO WOKE GO BROKE. no season 5 ... CUT OFF AT SEASON 2 that way you will not get upset by the shite to follow
Simply one of the best series I have watched. Managed to keep me watching with anticipation every episode. Every season is different and you usually can't guess/know what is going on. Different actors every season manage to give it different vibe, but still fills like one big piece. Every think is well written and filmed. I rarely recommend something, but is really god.
the first season is a masterpiece
sloooow and boring. I don't understand all the comments praising this...sure it has a different style than a crime of the week classical cop/detective/crime show but it is so slow. The stories are nothing original either. There is a new story each season, so I was hoping that I might like the second season since people who liked the first didn't like it. nope, still boring with pretentious dialogue.
You might like this if you are a man in a middle age crisis, which I'm guessing was the target demographic.
I got through watching this show by leaving it on as background noise and was still able to keep up with the story, was still boring.
Edit: season 3 is slightly better
Only watched season 1 and it was really good. As for the later seasons, I didn't even bother watching them because they did not look good.
RATED AS SEASON ONE ONLY
Only watch Season One! It’s an exceptional mini-series.
Can’t compare it to Season 2 or 3.
Season 1 was great. Season 2 however... Simply put, a giant headache of a season.
Season 1 Was Absolutely Fantastic. Great Plot , Great Acting With Great Cast . And Lovely Paced With The Different Periods Playing Out Superbly!
Avoid The 2nd Season At All Costs. It Just Very Dismal.
I've seen worse, but this was far from the amazing show some people seem to think it is. I watched it all at once so maybe that is the problem, but it just felt odd and had hardly any of the detective like work you would expect from a show like this. One of the "clues" used near the end is just beyond ridiculous. Other than that the characters had a lot of depth. Rust Cohle was what kept me watching as he was a brilliant character and he really took the show from being mediocre to being good. However one amazing performance can't save 8 hours of a TV series, not completely anyway.
McConaughey's acting skills are breathtaking.
I watch this and am really impressed with McConaughey. I used to equate him to the male version of Katherine Heigl. Not a bad thing, but his roles didn't have much depth. At least his successful roles didn't.
Also, I get the Hannibal vibe as well. I think it's because they slow the pace of the show and let your mind fill in the blanks between the dark imagery they're using.
Thought it was gonna be just another CSI NYSFLBGQTPD show alllright-alright-alright
season 1 is a masterpiece.Then it's kinda average
Case in third season looked pretty interesting unfortunately I was not satisfied with last episodes. I was missing emotions which I had at the ending of first two seasons. Also changing between three different times was sometimes confusing, sometimes annoying and sometimes not necessary.
Loved the first Season and while in a completely different style, Season 2 is mind blowingly good. The damaged characters, the authentic action scenes leaving those involved completely drained and bewildered. The general texture and complexity is sublime.
S2 is incredibly dense and requires focus to enjoy. Reminds me of Michael Mann's work. Surprise me again with Season 3!
Loved season 1, very disappointed with season 2, sex, sex, sex. I prefer actual writing, and plot movement to another sex scene.
Brian Lowry, de Variety , opinó: “Rica y absorbente, esta serie de ocho episodios ha entrado rápidamente en la élite, ofreciendo una voz singular que es diferente a cualquier otra cosa vista en la televisión”.
True Detective Night Country - :heart:x8
This season was great! It started out looking like it was going to be a SyFy/Murder/Mystery but it ended up just being a Murder/Mystery just exceptionally well done.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
excellent series with very good actors in each of the suspense, horror, action seasons. .. very good to recommend.
Season 4:
Captivating & dark murder mystery with supernatural undercurrents at its edges, singular in its vision with great performances and moody production design.
Unfortunately fell apart as a proper murder mystery, it's plots crumbling under the slightest scrutiny.
Season one was peak true detective and season 4 is just they selling us shit in the name of true detective!
Not going to lie, walked away from the show after the hot mess of previous seasons, and it took several friends to drag me back to give it another shot. I really like what I saw in the first episode, getting a real The Thing meets Twin Peaks vibe here!
The series is very good! But the end of season 2 is frustrating! Will the bad guys win in the end? I'm fed up with real life! I watch series to entertain myself and not to get angry! I stopped watching
Season 1-2 were perfect, then the rest was garbage and woke.
I honestly gave this show a chance, I watched the entire first season as confusing as it was and just not for me. I'll give this two out of five
Only season one was great. Season four was boring.
S04 is a total sheit show, go clean your house or do something productive.
Stop watching after the first season, you will regret it otherwise. Very sad I wasted time with this (except the 1st season)
True Detective Season 4 is really bad, filled with cliches.. It gave me Fortitude vibes, which was another awful show..
Wokeism is destroying everything.
Each episode is less interesting than the one before it. I recon it'll be a complete standstill by episode 4. Zzzzzzź
First season was great to see, but I even enjoyed the second and third season. Even though they were not as good as the first one.
''Detective'' is a series where the spotlight is primarily on excellently written dialogues and characters, while action scenes, though present, do not overshadow what's most important – the gradually unfolding intrigue. In short, a must-watch for avid cinephiles.
This coincidentally came out around the same time as Fargo. Two seasonal anthology style detective shows that are bound to hook its audience. Unfortunately for True Detective, the second and third seasons never hit the great heights of the first season to allow for more to follow. Whereas Fargo people may like different seasons for different reasons, does anyone not believe Season 1 is the best True Detective?
Average Season Review: 8/10
Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Detective Show Fans)
EDIT (After Season 4 Revival)
After season 4, the average drops a bit more. Night Country seemed pretty out of place and felt slightly like it was trying to cash in on the True Detective IP.
Average Season Review: 7.75/10
They should have ended with season 1 which I think was the best one but, apparently there is going to be a 4th season, season 2 was not good in my opinion but there were a lot of actors in it whom which I'm not a fan of, season 2 was a bit like season 1 lots of ins and outs and round abouts I wanted more of a darker ending but it was still a good one. Let's hope 4 is more along the lines of 1 & 3.
Season 1 MASTERPIECE GOATED TT
The dialogues man, you gotta pay attention to the dialogues, I enjoyed every time Rust and Marty were just there talking. Season 1 beats season 2 and 3.
First season is a masterpiece, second season is fine to mediocre, and the third season is a complete waste of time. I will probably skip season 4, get out before the show really falls off a cliff.
Pretty boring 1 episode is enough for me...
Just watch season 1 and you will watch truly one of the best episodes of telly ever. The other 2…….
First season was an event... it was really a breath of fresh air where every aspect of it just sang. It was clear it wasn't going to be topped, but nevertheless we collectively held our breaths for second season. 10/10
Second season started slow.. Too slow for most, where most gave up 2 episodes in. Shame, because while it felt as unfocused muddled mess for a first few episodes, it really finds focus, clarity and epiphany in the second part, matching or even surpassing season one . In any case it felt fresh take and attempt to expand the formula of the first season, and what made season 1 so compelling is present here as well. And the soundtrack.. oh man! 8/10
Third season... I was intrigued. It was heralded as a return to form, albeit not as great. While it tries to emulate that feel season one had, which based on reviews it got partly worked as most see it as an improvement over season two, I felt it never really finds it's own voice no matter how much it's trying. It's a meandering mess that never really feels compelling and takes way too much time to get to the point, but in the end it's not that good of a point. 6/10
Season 1 is amazing 2&3 are good thriller ride
Is good but not perfect.
Tuttle did not kill himself
Damn, that ALEXANDRA DADDARIO scene was awesome, she is 10/10.
Excellent show! Writing, character development, plot...9.5 out of 10.
Not as good as the first two. Jumps around too much, story lacks any grit or real interest in the investigation. Disappointing.
Even taking the generally lesser well received second season into account - which is only 'bad' when unfairly compared to the first season - this show is set to be one of television's all time greats. The writing, cinematography, direction, performances and just about anything else you care to name has been handled by people who are obviously very skilled and compassionate about their craft. Hope there's more of these to come, but only if they're done with the same amount of high standards.
The scene in which they arrest Reggie Ledoux is great.
Excellent show, both seasons were amazing!
Excellent show, both seasons were amazing!
I watched season 1 and it was brilliant
First season excellent, second not so much.
Season 2 was great , even greater than the 1st. The script in season 2 was far more believable and well executed by Colin Farrell . Season 1 was also a masterpiece but it was surreal.
I actually watched the second season. I like it a little bit less than first season but the script style of Nic is always alive.
Not sure about the season 2... I know I need to forget completely the S1 in order to enjoy the S2, but man the S1 is TOP.
The best show right now, period!
new season is good as season 1!! absolately perferct.
Hope it's as good as the first season.
1 st season was really good.
I think you guys have got the cast wrong here??
The story in this show is amazing and the characters are even more awesome
Wish there was more than "Totally Ninja" because it deserves more than 10
I loved the first season up until the end... The finale really killed it for me.
F*cking hell!!! I haven't seen a great TV show like this in years.... I really have no idea how they will create a better season than the first one. But hey, I never thought that season one was that awesome!! Thumbs up
I wasn't sure what to expect with this show, but was pleasantly surprised by the end of the first season. It kept me wanting to know what happens next.
Just brilliant. The best drama cop show since the Wire.
Time is a flat circle
next season will be with different actors, story, location etc. only the theme of detective will remain and hopefully the quality
Great show, great story, awesome actors... but the story is over. I don't see how you can make a second season with the same actors.
What a Masterpiece. There was this one episode, well that was kind of not as good as the others, but the rest was damn near perfect. The cinematic style is just beyond everthing I have seen on TV and most of the movies. This one is a must see !
hmm.kinda deep into the process of mind, this program goes....much more than a detective..no showoff.....just dive into inner soul...and let the case be solved...
Definitely one of the best tv shows I've ever seen.
Very intense and gripping. One word: sensational.
The storyline and characters development are great. The performances leave you speechless.
I've seen it in less than 3 days. So addictive.
I'm blown away. Highly recommended!
One of the best shows I've ever seen
Sensational. Incredible writing & character development. The show is off such a high standard that the ending felt somewhat disappointing compared to the build-up. A MUST WATCH.
Its not a brainy show but McConaughey really gives an intense performance, I have to watch it all over again.
Excellent Lovecraftian narrative without the supernatural.
Best tv show I've ever watched! First season is spectacular!! It got me mesmerized the whole time! Gonna watch it again soon that's for sure!
Gripping in the way that you can't pull your eyes away and shush anyone who dares even to whisper while it's on. Plan to begin watching a second time today, and probably again after that.
Good show to watch and the story is very interesting. I like the acting and the conflict. It feels real. Check it out. Looking forward to next season.
wow, highly enjoyable. great cinematography. the heaviness of the boys' accents was a little off-putting at first but easily gotten used to. i know theyre both "good ol' boys" and they were laying it on thick. the ending did seem a bit rushed. for so much of the show they had this grand scope of things and in the last 1 to 1 1/2 eps they came to a razor sharp focus. perhaps if the focus started like ep 6 or so it wouldnt have seemed so jarring. that said i was entirely pleased with how things turned out. i had heard the grumblings of the last ep and wasnt quite sure how they were going to "screw the pooch". imho they didnt. i had about 3 or 4 endings in mind and i was fine with the direction they chose. Especially since this will be another american horror type anthology show from what im reading, i think they went in a perfectly acceptable direction. everyone develops theories about shows endings but if you dont want to be disappointed almost every time, you have to be willing to let the writers take you where they will. evaluate what you have been given and rate it as a whole. this was a fantastically enjoyable 8 hours.
its so important in a show that has a finite run to create an immediate chemistry amongst all the actors. you dont have the 10-12 episode grace period to get everyone to know their places. immediately in this all the actors are spot on. kudos to hbo and sho for so many of their shows doing this. network tv is ok and all but cable is really where the sweet spot is these days.
awesome show loved every scene of it

Man what a show, Harrelson is great but McConaughey is brillant.
