Gray Lady Down(1978)

Grey Lady Down,A Disaster movie about a sub accident, Definetly from the time era that brought us "Earthquake, Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure". Like the later mentioned movie this also takes place in one of earth's big oceans. With Actors like Charles Heston, David Carradine, Stacey Keach. Playing a whole lot of captains ;-), the story of the movie is straight forward, Sub captain (Charles Heston), advancing in the ranks to sqaudron commander, is sailing his sub for the last time before handing his boat over to his X.O. Things however dont go as planned and they collide with another vessel, With the sub sinking to the bottom and resting on a ledge, with the prospect of plummething deeper and imploding, The U.S Navy starts a rescue operation. They call in as specialist to examine assess the situation at hand. This misson is led by none other then captain gates (David Carradine).

The movies starts with building up a comfort zone seeing the crew of the sub saying their goodbyes to one captain, and welcoming the X.O. bij giving him a symbolic whistle, After that its a one way avalanche into darkness for the viewer and the crew of the neptune, It can be said that this movie is definetly to be called patriotic, and very supportive of the us Navy, Which in terms where willing to support this movie for obvious reasons, This movie should definetly be seen through 1978 glasses,as its characters all try to be Brave and bold. A Little too bold for my taste sometimes. never the less the better acting in this movie stems from Heston and Carradine, Viewing this as one of my childhood movies, which furtered feuled my intrest in for the sea, and whats beneath its surface, Ik can help but say this movie is definetly dated. and will most likely be viewed by hardcore movie goers from that era.
I watched this movie a while ago and ever since this is my index for a bad movie. It has absolutely no content, you just see the same rooms over and over again without anything happening. I'm not the kind of person who dislikes a movie just because there isn't any action in it. But this movie has absolutely no content. You just see some people walking through some rooms talking a very few words and then at the end a 5-10 minutes szene with a little "action". If you stare at a wall for 86 minutes you'll probably be more amused than watching this film. I really can't think of any logical reason someone could actually like this film. Neither could I think of a reason you would be scared. This film stole 86 minutes of my life I'll never get back. If you haven't seen this film yet I would really suggest you don't watch it even if you can't say if a movie is bad or not if you haven't watched it yet. This movie is an complete waste of time. Don't watch it, you'll regret it. Hope it helps some people to not waste their precious time.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" has no reason to exist. Spider-man is a hero everyone knows. He's been around for so long everyone is familiar with his origin, comic fan or not. Its basic pop culture. Then you have the Sam Raimi's movies. Everyone saw them. They made loads of money and they're always on TV. They are entertaining movies. "Spider-Man" gave us a good origin story in 2002. This movie simply wasn't needed. Now I gave it the benefit of the doubt. There's Burton's Batman and Nolan's. Maybe this was a different Spider-Man. A more "dark" vision perhaps! Maybe the movie spent a few minutes on the origin and then wisely moved on with its story. Maybe... well maybe it wasn't just another rehash. A shameless attempt to remake, or how they say it these days, reboot the same idea with minimal changes except the cast. I was naive. The whole movie is about Spider-Man's origin. They traded Mary Jane for another love interest and held off on "The Green Goblin" because that would be too much "rubbing it in the face" for the fans, I guess. We get Gwen Stacy and "The Lizard". The rest is same old, same old. The same uncle Ben plot, the same scenes about making the suit, learning how to control powers, the search for the criminal Spider-man lets get away with horrific results. Same thing. Except everything is done without a spark of energy or creativity. Raimi's movies were energetic, flowing with excitement. They were "new". Seeing Spider-Man on the big screen, webbing all over the city, fighting "The Green Goblin", it was amazing. We didn't have "The Avengers" back there, or "Iron Man". This was like a dream come true for comic fans. "The Amazing Spider-Man" smells of old cheese. I tried to take the movie for what it was but it was impossible. My mind would not let me. I knew what was going to happen next. I knew all the plots! I'd seen it all before! But even ignoring that deja-vu the movie just does not work. Its slow, turgid with an unlikable Peter Parker and a CGI lizard for a villain. Parker is a whiny, self centered idiot. His relationship with aunt May and uncle Ben is never fully explored and what little there is consists of Parker being a rude jerk for no reason at all. The movie has one thing going for it. The cast. Sally Field and Martin Sheen are great with what little material they have. Emma Stone is sexy and sweet which is "her thing" and again she pulls it off brilliantly. Rhys Ifans is decent as Curt Connors and surprisingly I loved Andrew Garfield as Spidey. Yes, seriously! He looks perfect for the part and he did his best with the horrible script. He's charismatic and brought his own touch to the role instead of copying Toby Maguire. If the movie is even slightly original its because of him. Some of the action in the last third of the movie is also spectacular. Spider-man's movements when fighting are really well done as is the web-slinging. The action is well directed and exciting and the movie sets up a sequel rather nicely. But its asking a lot to go over the material everyone knows for two hours for a few minutes of cool action. The movie plays it so safe it hurts. Its competent but never brilliant. Tedious and far too long with little spots of action but few and far between. I hope in the sequel this "Spider-Man" can find its own style and its own place. Given space to grow and evolve, on the strength of the character and Garfield's acting this could be the weak start to a new amazing super-hero trilogy. Then again, maybe i'm just naive.

This is by all means a lame movie.

When a movie is named after its protagonist, you'd expect the character to be well formed. Jack Reacher wasn't. As an ex-army-cop anti-hero that doesn't play by the rules, Tom Cruise's character was a tame sheep who exerted his dominance using his mouth more than his fists. "You don't want to mess with me" was his catchphrase, but in a post-1980's-world, he certainly did not look more threatening than a teenager with mood problems. Cruise's performance did the character no service either, demonstrating a single stern line of emotion that felt copy and pasted for the film's duration.

The plot ran through tropes and was predictable in its twists (i.e. if you manage to stay one step ahead of the game, you'll be predicting the whole story dead-on). The camera emphasis on prop guns (and its PG-13 rating) suggests that this movie was geared towards a certain prepubescent demographic, and the complexity of the dialogue reflected such. Dollhouses have more personality than the cast and opting to have no soundtrack made the film dryer than a bad turkey sandwich.

While there's no serious complaint about the quality (yeah, it could've been worse), but there's really no positives that can be seen. 5.0/10
Finally I 've watched the movie with some friends yesterday.

And I gotta say: It was really good. But there is happening so much. You don't even get time to breath sometimes. One incident after the next one. Bam, bam bam! And that about two hours long.

Thats not that bad if you are into an action movie. But for me, Star Trek was always more than Science Fiction with action scenes in it. And thats why the movie is only getting 8/10 points.
If I want to watch a movie with no bigger story in it, which is Science Fiction & Action based - I gonna watch Iron Man or something like that.

Nothing big is happening in the story line - that is what I missed most... maybe because of the many action scenes^^. But Star Trek Fans will like that Kahn is showing up and Tribbles too - and one scene with a windows between Spock & Kirk. But that felt more like the writers/director want do give the Star Trek fans something to like to movie more..... Hmmmmmm.. ladidadida... hm!

Something about the 3D pictures: Many scenes in that movie are happening so fast, that the whole picture is very blurry. And the director played with many close ups... which were strange to watch.
Even if the 3D effects are really good, you might consider the option to not watch it in 3D.

Well. The movie is great. And I definitely gonna watch it a second or third time.

If you are into Science Fiction or Action movies : Go to your preferred cinema theatre and enjoy.
If you also like Star Trek: Just lower a little bit your expectations and you gonna like it as well =)

Whilst writing this review for Dune, which is one of my childhood (Sci-fi Fantasy) movies.
i cant help but think that viewing the movie in our current time. the movie definatly begins to look outdated and was produced in a certain era, this shines in the movie dune. and should be seen as such.

The movie utilises a star cast with nowdays old skool actors like (Jurgen prochnov, Patrick Steward, Kyle Macalahan, Sean Young, Leonard Ciminow, Brad Dourif, and of course mucisian Sting). The music for this movie was also scored by Toto, and they did an epic job on it for that time, I think the music is also party what reflects the Sci-fi Setting in this movie.)

The story takes it time to be set up by the writers an producers, and introduces us to all the players in the Dune universe, This movie came in the wake of the first "Star wars", trilogy. and in comparison i did a poor job. This is also where the largest mistake for the average movie viewer lies. Dune isn't a simple Sci-Fi Aktion movie, It has layers of story telling, and tackles issues as faith, Perceverence, loyalty.

Whilst the movie has a decent cast there where some moments i definatly think there was quit a bit of overacting, however on thing should be noted that this movie could be viewed in some way as fantasy movie, and in this genre there is quit a bit of bolstering and overacting to reach dramatich heigts. For Dune the same counts in that regard.

For me as viewer this will definatly remain a childhood favorite.
The Hobbit a Fantasy story in the tolkien universe set to beocme a second trilogy of movies next to the "Lord of the Rings", it holds it own whilst people complain about the movie being too long, i personaly think this can be written of as poor judgement and not getting what you expect. People who see this movie could have guest that Peter Jackson, would take the time to reintroduce us to the tolkien universe. but more specifacly also the characters, Don't forget in The Hobbit an unexpected journey this drags on for about 30 mins, With the first lord of the ring movie, peter jackson took in my opinion about 70 % procent of the movie to set up his characters and the universe they occupy. I did enjoy this movie a couple of things, The Dwarven humor, Nice sets an great effects. And also for setting up several things for the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. It was nice seeing characters like (Saruman, Gandalf, Galadriel, elrond, Gollum) again being portrayed by the actors we loved from "lord of the rings". of course it was a joy to see "Andy Serkis", take another shot at gollum. The one thing i did miss a bit was the antagonistic role. whilst the idea of the white orc. was entertaining, i didn't found it qout menacing. Im looking forward to seeing how this trilogy will unfold. With fairness as start Peter Jackson did a decent job on it

I Realy Enjoyed this movie, When i first saw it was on a Saturday night when nothing was showing in my country, it was one of the first pictures i saw from the hands of M night shamalyan. The Movie isn great on Effects, or acting, the characters are just basic run of the mill type of people which is good and it works for the story, The story is more of a basic buildup with climatic last 15 mins, and figuring out wat there dealing with. In tru m Night shamalyan style. he tells this like as a modern fairy tale with an array of Arch type of characters (The Thinker, The fighter, The Healer) that sort of stuff.

Also the lore about the narf an the scrunt was nice component to the story telling, it left me as viewer of this movie thinking and wondering about its origins.

M night who tributes this to his time telling story's to his children before he sleeps. would also write a book to coincide with this movie. it detailed more about the scrunt, Narf eathon roles and mythology.

Definatly not a blockbuster movie, But damm i wouldn't mind seeing it again :-) it truly enjoyed it for what it is.
Whilst it cant measure up to the first movie,I found id did certanly hold its own candle, It could have been executed a lot worse, Yet in some regards it was a bit lacking, The story was realy linear and was quit predictable, The acting was decent however. Another thing i noticed where the lineup of actors cast in various parts. "Carrie Ann Mos, Sean Bean, Malcom Mcdowel",
Nice seeing these actors again but in my respect they where poorly utilized.

The Effects however where one of the things i did enjoy about this movie, as well as te sets and the lightning and also the camera works. As the movie ends with yet another ending which hints at another sequel, I hope that if a third "Silent Hill" movie comes to pass. They will try to reinvent the franchise, and give everybody, movie goers but also hardcore fans of the game series something to truly enjoy. One thing i however disliked was that it was too much tailored for the 3D cinema scene,

Seeing that the movie received mosty negative critics and ratings it neverthles still groced more then its production cost where, as far as the movie franchische is concerned the question will remain will we get to see another chapter to this story.

Yet another Ip Man movie, but this one is really confusing, i couldn't tell who's who and what's going on most of the time, i was like:

"Wait.. who's fighting? oh another scene.. is that ip man old? oh no that's his master.. oh that guy is ip man.. wait who's that guy suddenly barging in and talking about the north style? who's the girl? ip man's wife? and why does she have an army? oh cool a scene that looks like ip man 2! oh great.. i'm lost again.."

Also there's a LOT of (boring) talks.. after one long hour (the movie is over 2hours long) of random talks and overlapped scenes with no indications of dates and locations that kept me in my confusion, i prefered skipping them and only watch the fight scenes.

Too bad the movie is probably too historical especially for a foreigner like me, it reminded me when i watched Lincoln, lots of talks.. couldn't tell what's going on..

At least there are awesome and detailed kung fu scenes to save this one! The whole movie is beautiful and very artistic, a must to watch in HD, the fight scenes and kung fu movements are very detailed and sometimes in slow motion, great to watch if you are interested in martial arts.

Hey Guys. (:
I could need some help. .__. I don't know how to watch the movies, could someone help me.?

Thanks. (:
I guess it was a pretty decent action movie, not amazing though. Still, they need to stop ruining awesome franchises like Die Hard. Just stop it.

This show was running on TV in my country. And when I turned to the TV channel at night where the show was running I turned it off - I got to say, that I never watched this. Why? I found the plot sooo stupid. Just another show with an agent, and the agent is solving different problems and cases in each episode.

Well. In some way this might be true, but there is more behind that. A bigger story.

Now I am in the second season and I gonna say, that the story develops good. Sometimes I get really surprised about the change of courses of the characters behaviour.

If you like action, technical agent gimmicks and action scenes you might consider watching this show. J.J. Abrams was the producer of this show, so you also get a mystery factor in it - but I do not want to spoiler that.
The characters are developing great during the show - but I gotta say that there are some "over-subscribed" chars... The technic-guy for example. When you see him, you know what I mean.

What I also don't like is, that in each episode there are 1 - 2 action scenes, and then the part where there is the emotional/private stuff for the characters. Thats getting boring, because you already know: "Oh action scenes are over - okay now she's talking to her dad, tears ladidaldida". ^^

If you are into spy stuff, you might try The Americans which I like far more.

I think Alias is good. 7/10.

A series with nice clean animation, some funny and enjoyable moments, and some very divisive characters (especially Kirino... you either love or hate her).

The biggest surprise for me is that despite the title of the series, and the main premise being about a guy and his little sister's embarrassing secret, the series itself is far, far less "incest-ey" (not a word, I know...) than the title would suggest. In Fact, Kyouske's interests later on in the series are most definitely set on another girl.

It's not the best series ever by any stretch and some episodes I found to be pretty dumb and unrealistic (even suspending disbelief has its limits). Your mileage may also vary depending on which of the characters you like, as some do seem to get more screen time than others (If you don't like Kirino, some episodes will be especially annoying). However, if you're able to look past that it's a series that is not without its charm. Some of the characters can be very endearing and it's nice to see a series that, in spite of its title, doesn't always play the excessive fanservice or incest card that so many other series of this type default to.

I would have never thought to watch this show if someone hadn't recommended it to me. I thought it would be dumb and corny so I was really surprised when I started watching it because it is pretty funny and refreshingly different. But the thing is I think what is funny about it is how cheesy and ridiculous it can be. I am almost done with the first season and it is getting better with each episode. They did a great job choosing the actors especially the 2 main actresses (Max- Kat Denning and Caroline- Beth Behrs)are perfect. I love how these 2 completely different girls worlds have come together and now Caroline is turning from a rich snobby girl who always had daddy's money to do with whatever she wanted, into a girl who sees how people who aren't rich have to live and now has to fend for herself with the help of the very smart mouthed Max, who has a lot of experience being poor and fending for herself but now she has a friend to help watch her back also, even though a girl like Caroline would be the last person Max would ever want anything to do with.
For some reason I'm surprised it hasn't been canned yet, it seems like that's what the network does with shows that aren't exactly like all of the other shows on tv, especially since they haven't gone out of their way to advertise this show so it's not very well known as it should be.

The dialogue and the cases are the best part of this show. It's quick, witty and realistic. Some of the characters which come off one dimensional (Arroyo) and need more fleshing out i.e.. not being a villain just for a villain's sake. But for some reason as much as I try to like the main character Theo James plays, the actor seems to be overacting every scene (including an awful lot of jaw clenching ) which makes the already ambitious Clark seem obnoxious and ungrateful. That's not to say James isn't a good actor but unlike a movie where's there's less time to get to the point, TV needs to be acted with the long game in mind as you have time to develop the character. Chi McBride plays his usual good cop role and he's as believable as ever. The story is really about the gray area cops live in and what it really takes for a cop to be good at their job and gain recognition without sacrificing their integrity and the show will need to work on balancing that for each of the main characters in order to keep the audience's interest. Beyond that its an slightly above average cop drama (But it's no Southland) with an overarching flash-forward storyline to reward repeat viewers, definitely worth a watch. Plus Theo James is very nice to look at!
There aren't many TV shows or movies portraying the German side of the second world war, but Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter shows their side of the story and as with most things, it's not always black and white.

The story is about a group of five friends and you'll follow their lives trough the second world war. Wilhelm and Friedhelm are two brothers who are sent to the Russian front. Greta is a singer dreaming of becoming a star. Charlotte just signed up to become an army nurse and has a very nationalistic mind. And finally there's Viktor a German Jew, trying to get out of the country before it's too late.

During the three 1.5 hour long episodes the makers take you to the eastern front of the second world war and you'll find yourself in Russia and Poland during the worst battles. The promised victory by Christmas has come and gone and after another year in battle doubt starts to set in.

If you expect hour long battles like in The Pacific you're out of luck, but there's plenty of well executed action.

The actors are excellent and production value is on par with big-budget HBO shows. If you like Band of Brothers or The pacific this is definitely a must-see!

I am in the middle of the first season but I gonna say: this show is so good !

Since The Walking Dead is getting more and more boring, Homeland's season is over, and Breaking Bad's final season is starting in July I was looking for a TV Show which is exiting, got a central theme in it. Where you get surprised and the acting is good.
A TV show which is realistic and dangerous.

I found all of it with this show!

Since this TV Show is about the cold war I want to compare it with James Bond, and the second reason is I don't want to put spoilers in it:
I am pretty sure you know the older James Bond movies, where Bond is jumping of a cliff with no parachute, into a plane, gets control over the plane, destroying the enemy's base and got no scratches. Superhero Bond. No problems.
And then you know the newer Bond movies with Daniel Craig. Where Bond has problems. He's a drinker. Getting hurt, Getting scratches, simply more realistic.

If you know what I mean, then you know who the show is like.
Two KGB agents who are in the US for some years. Got two children. Have to live their whole life under disguise, which living a FBI Agent next door.
They like in some way there life as normal people and they do like in some way the people of America. But in their point of view the US government is evil. They what to build a anti-missile defense system (google Star Wars Bush), which would make the nuclear arsenal of Russia worthless. And they have to do something against that.

Lets see how the show develops. 9/10

Some say the show is a little bit like "Grey's Anatomy" in space, others its like "Lost" in space. Well I personally think it isn't anything of this.

If you watch this tv show you get a tv show which is very realistic. No real fancy technical stuff what we all might like about Star Trek, no fighting scenes like in Star Wars. I don't want to spoil anything, but the plot is simple: make a journey through our solar system which really takes a long time and a mystery factor which everything makes more interesting and a starship which isn't that big.
You also get some realationships between the actors.

But there is action in this TV Show. I never get bored watching this and I am a little bit sad that the show got canceled after the first season. There is no big ending, but at least the show got a good last episode with not that big cliffhanger (like in Alcatraz).
I suggest give it a try, watch the pilot and the 2nd episode. If you do not like it after that, don't watch the show. If you do, watch it. It is not a waste of time.

Good. 7/10
Game of Thrones

I can tell you that Game of Thrones is phenomenal, visual beautiful, fantastic, exhilarating and action-packed thrilling rollercoaster that in many ways has not been seen yet in a tv show. I could say that and be absolutely right about it, but unless you have been living under a rock without an internet connection for the past 2 years than no doubt you already heard, seen or read for yourself what a masterpiece the books and/or this tv series is.

Game of Thrones is exactly like the title says: A game for the throne. Played by the people who think its their right to claim, conquer or inherit it. They all have different goals and different ways of getting to that point, but their goal is in essence in one way or another the same for all of them: to be recognized and remembered for their deeds. Off course that is not so weird since everyone in real life at some level thinks like that. But the main characters in Game of Thrones are different, either through noble descent, the power and money they have, intelligence or sheer luck they have become a member of one of the noble houses that rule the countries and can decide the fate and lives of hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of people within the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.

The story, setting and characters are all taken from a broad range of European history. Most of what we see of the continent Westeros (castles and tournaments) is taken from High Medieval Western Europe from around the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. But the story takes bits and pieces from other time periods as well. For example the wildfire that was used in season 2 in a brilliant strategic move of "The Imp" Tyrion Lannister during the Battle of the Blackwater is in fact Byzantine "Greek fire" which was invented and first used in the 7th century during battles between Muslims and Byzantines. This and other historical events, devices and characters based on real people out of history are all as it seems perfectly interwoven into each other into the fictional world of Game of Thrones by the author of the books George R. R. Martin.

For the actors who play the characters i have nothing but utmost respect. The performance they manage to show episode after episode is definitely what makes this tv show so popular. There is one in particular that without a doubt is one of the more popular stars of this tv show: Peter Dinklage who plays the role of "The Imp" Tyrion Lannister. In the 1st season he was portrayed as nothing more than someone who took advantage of his noble status and money to do whatever he wanted. But in season 2 (and hopefully the next seasons too) he transformed despite his disadvantage of being born as a dwarf (who during medieval times and in this fictional world are considered "lesser" humans) into a brilliant military and political strategist and someone who can very good and enjoys as he so very accurately said himself "play the game".

Game of Thrones is without a doubt the hit tv show of this decade. It started out with a story about medieval times, but slowly with every episode we see the world of the Seven Kingdoms transform into a place where mythical creatures exist, magic and dark powers are used as a weapon against enemies and where the dead are once more walking again.... Winter is coming, and i have no doubt it that it will be as spectacular and story-wise phenomenal as we have have seen in the previous seasons.

Vash the Stampede, the wanted man of 60,000,000,000$$

If you are a die-hard anime fan than no doubt you have already seen this one. If you haven't already, shame on you! Go download/buy/borrow it right now! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

Trigun is a very traditional anime, but at the same time very good. Traditional in the animation techniques used (it was made in 1998 and computers were back than not yet such an integral part of animation as they are right now), which are definitely not bad, visual speaking this anime does even now after 15 years still look amazing. If you have seen a lot of anime than you will definitely recognize some of the visual art tropes this anime has that are unique to anime (For more information about those take a look here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JapaneseVisualArtsTropes ).

What makes this anime stand out from the crowd is the story. The mood you get from this anime during the first half of series is that Vash the Stampede is really on a desert planet in the distant future. It is definitely a cool mix of the old American western culture and a distant future with cool technology where human colonists set out to colonize other planets. The first half of the series is without a doubt a hilarious, action-packed, phenomenal and awesome piece of artwork you will not soon forget. The stories are really of a fantastic quality.

The second half of the series is where it gets serious and where (in my opinion) the anime loses some of its quality story-wise. Its still good, but the fact that Vash is portrayed as some kind of Messiah that walks the earth trying to undo his errors from the past and who's life-motto is to do no harm under any circumstance gets to a point where it becomes annoying and makes him look like a pathetic douchebag not worthy of the enormous bounty on his head (For example, at one point in the anime in an attempt to save someones life he strips naked and barks like a dog in front of a group of thugs he can easily take down).

Nevertheless, This together with Cowboy bebop (http://trakt.tv/show/cowboy-bebop), Neon Genesis Evangelion (http://trakt.tv/show/neon-genesis-evangelion) and to a lesser extent Berserk (http://trakt.tv/show/berserk) are the anime series from the Nineties that every fan of anime should see at least once in their life time. Without these on your watched history pages here on Trakt the term Anime Otaku does not apply to you ;)

It's very hard to review or rate Alphas, given the show's genre and actual content: It had several weak moments, and not always did I find it in myself to relate or like the characters.

Despite that, the worldbuilding was rich and full of potential. There you have those very difficult and different characters, with their abilities and conflicts.

Unfortunately, it seemed like the creators and writers weren't always certain what to focus on the most (or failed at it) making it hard to build up an involved viewership.

None of the characters got the attention they would have deserved over more than their respective episodes, which is quite tragic, given how their abilities could very well be translated to actual mental diseases and conditions like PTSD, clinical depression, mania, Compulsive Obsessive Disorder, ADHD, Autism, and so on.

Truthfully, the show played it very straight: The obvious ships, the obvious (inter/re)actions, the obvious conflicts. Few subtle remarks, that lead to even less subtle discussions and missions. The most interesting antagonists never appeared again, and the protagonists couldn't quite manage to redeem themselves.

Yes, Alphas was a good show with a remarkable concept, but I feel as if the writers tried too hard to please a mainstream viewership and eventually forgot that the show might have sold itself, with the great cast (oh, Mennell and Cartwright, how I miss you two), solid worldbuilding and almost crazy potential to play around. - Or maybe the blunt and grey atmosphere was intentional. If so, well.. I understand why some people might not have enjoyed the show enough to watch it every week..

In short: They didn't do bad, but they could have done better. While I feel bitter about it at the moment, I can somewhat understand Syfy's decision to cancel the show. Though the cliffhanger was evil and I demand a Moonlight-ish post about what would have happened in Season 3. Thank you. ;)
I'm going to miss this show. It was a cool comedy and the cast was great! Shame on ABC for pulling the plug so soon... and for putting it on the death slot that caused the ratings to fall! But I guess that's what they do... they are after all ABC (Always Bet on Cancellations).

Great, slow-burn series about a man readjusting to life after spending 20 years in prison. With visuals often reminding of Malicks style it's certainly unique next to the other shows airing.

1X01 - Dexter written by James Manos, Jr. and directed by Michael Cuesta.

The Pilot episode of Dexter, takes it times to flesh out :-) its titular character, Apart from the first season other seasons are faster paced. The pilot Shows us Dexter morgan and his foul mouthed sister "Debra Morgan", Als it shows Dexter grappeling with the world around him and trying to fit in as to go unnoticed about his bussines, A Serial killer in law enforcement, Definetly seems to have it advantages, as Dexter is as a "Wolf in sheeps cloathing", Except for this time its the wolves (Criminals) who find they are cast in the role of sheep, The pilot episode also sets up the basics for the story to be told in Season 1,

- Dexter and his sister are introduced
- The backstory about the Morgan family is initiated
- The Famous Harry Morgan guidance visions are introduced
- the politics within Miami metro police become known

The episode ends definetly sets the pace for the suspense, aktion that follows throughout the first season

On another level it deals with Dexter trying to fit and be as normal as possible, this is shown to the viewer from Dexter perspective, but also shows that how much goes unnoticed, by the average day things people go about. And then there's Rita, played by Julie Benz, I think this is a role that realy suits her wel, and also a departure from the role she played on Buffy & Angel.

For the rist episode, i was definetly amused.

In Hannibal 1X08 - Fromage, directed by Tim hunter, we follow up on the character of Franklin a patient who is under the treatment of Dr lecter, But at the sametime seems obsessed with the idea befriending his therapist, Matters are however complicated when he suspects his lover/friend of being pscyhopath, meanwhile A chello player is found murdered with his chello partly inserted in his troath, and his vocals used to create a unique sound.

This episode had a couple of good things for it working,

- Again Dr Bedelia Du Maurier played by (Gillian Anderson) is featured in this episode, and a little of her backstory and common history with "Hannibal", is told,
- Hannibal comptemplating with Tobias, if the murdered Chello player appears to be a los or a gain for the orchestra,
- Dr Alana Bloom Comes in a tight spot when "will Graham", professes more or less his feelings for her. She handles this in a most delicate way :-) a peace well written,
- Franklin being his whiny self up untill the end of the episode, Never leaving character.
- Lecter confiding to dr Bedelia Du Maurier, about having found a true friend in Will Graham
- The gore and the originality about Snares on certain instruments, and theway they create it.

This Episode has it character moments, and while its passing was straight forward it defintly was well written, this is without a doubt one of the easiest reviews if written about a episode or a Movie, For me this episode was superb, it also leaves me questioning wether suspisions will be aroused bij Hannibals actions in the last 10 minutes, Well i geuss well have to wait for that to be told.

Episode 1X07 - Sorbet, definitely left "Hannibal", cooking something more than just a sorbet, A nice nod to the viewer was his remark about "I can assure you nothing here is vegetarian". The episode also pays a homage to events in the movie of "red dragon", which also has Hannibal cooking for a orchestra. The Episode itself has "Hannibal" written over it. It definetly "Madds Mickelsen", acting shining in this episode, for me it also brought a long awaited moment, to see geust star "Gillian Anderson", shine in this episode, i never expected the 2 characters to have such a Chemistry with each other, Hannibal has surely met his equall both with intelect and profesionalism, For this season "Gillian Anderson", would be geust staring in 3 episode's i hope they don't kill her of right away, because i hope for more interactione between"Hannibal and "Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier". I hope they bring her back for a second season. Also the whiny Franklin. hitting on Dr lecter was a nicely added to the plot and unfolds in the following episode.

Another nice tidebit about Gillian anderson was that she was in the running for playing Clarice starling, but had to drop out due to her X-files contract prohibiting her from playing another FBI agent.

This episode was well written, "and for me was Cake with icing and a cherry on top" :-)

Hannibal 1X06 Entree, takes the viewer for a closer look at both the "Chesapeake ripper", and Jack Crawfords past and his attempt to discover the identity, with his protogee Mirian Lass, The question of Jacks relation ship to Mirrian beyond mentor/ protogee is never fully answered, But it hints that the might be more then just colleague's

. The episode also introduces Dr Frederic Chilton to viewers, fans of the movies series remember him from "Silence of the Lambs". as the old friend who hannibal will be having for dinner, Pardon the pun ;-), Chilton is as irritable a character as i found him in the movie, i hope to see where his road leads to in the "Bryan, Fuller" series. The table moment between Hannibal and Alana and chilton opened up a way for the hannibal character to get some first hand knowledge about chiltons point of view,

Another part of the episode is devoted to Jack dealing with loss and hope on several fronts, and being taunted by the insecurity of prospect of losing someone, It Appears the "Ripper" is definatly toying with Crafword, to gain the upper hand on him.

As some viewers also wrote on trakt and other fora, I also found the episode ended a bit abrupt for me. never the less curious to see where this al goes eventually.
Angels ore Demons, its what "Will Graham Faces" when hunting down a killer in this episode who flays his victims backs and sets them up as Angels to gaurd over him.

The greater things that really worked for me in this episode where

- The art departments work on the victims, It Amazes me what great job these guys keep doing to keep it original and authentic at the same time, i wonder where do you gurs get your inspiration Hmmmm?

- Also Hannibals Attempt to trow a little wrench in Jacks and will relationship with one and other. Which definatly seems to show some fruits of his attempts when in the later half of this episode Jack and graham have a heated discussion.
- The dinner scene with Crawford and his wife, its always great to see "Gina Torres", acting again.
- Will Graham suffering from his Curse ore gift?
- The nod to the movie "Red Dragon" the Aftershave and the "Ship on a bottle thin.

this Episode definatly deepens the relationship between Graham and Crawford, and definatly shows more of Jacks'Crafword character, and the person he is.

Except for the scenes with the crafwords, and a single scene in lecters practicioners room, Hannibal is seen much in this episode, But he definatly delivers some fine lines in it.

Quef, The Episode deemed to sensitive to handle for US television because of a disturbing topic,
Hannibal Is a show which try´s to show viewers the disturbed world of psychopaths and serial killers. That doesn´t give it "Cudly & noble serial killer" treatmen, the way Vampire diaries does for the vampire stories. In my opinion it was more a stunt to give the show a boost. I cant believe for one second that "Bryan Fuller", would shy away from a topic like this.

Back to the review for this episode, Was it truly that horrific, Noway near, Whilst it is disturbing that kids get manipulated by a deranged psychopathic woman to murder their next of kin. its nothing new under the sun.

The great part for me is seeing "Will Graham", doing his mojo at the first crime scene, I always love how they portray this on this show. Also Hannibal feeding Will's, snooping around, and finishing his fly catching lure, took me for a little spin. Also seeing Alana Blooms character havind a bonding moment with "Hannibal", discussing "Abigail Hobbs" Case, clearly shows the profesionalism you'd expect from behavioural science and psychiatrist in general.

One of the definite higlights for me in this episode was the dining scene between Lecter and Jack Crawford, im glad to see more of "Laurence fishburne's", acting In a role that suits him wel;, and it opens up an opportunity for the writters to explore the character of "Jack crawford", a bit more.
