Shit. I really expected something more from that movie.
As I read the plot, I expected something great like in Short Bus ( http://trakt.tv/movie/shortbus-2006 )

But there wasn't. The plot is very simple and unfortunately there are not many surprises in it:
Guy wants to get back is girlfriend. She broke up because he is VERY conservative and really poor in bed. So he needs some help and finds that in a nice young lady. She is working as a stripper and got problems too: she has no clue about financial stuff but is very good in sex-stuff.
So they are helping each other. And a love story develops which you already predicted. .-/

But in my opinion it isn't a very sexual movie. Yes there are some scenes which are sexual but nothing that justifies the title "My Awkward Sexual Adventure"! The movie is more about a role-changing, role playing game. And that also doesn't really work out too much. But maybe its bad I compare it to a movie like shortbus.

But anyway: some funny scenes are in this movie, and it is quite enjoyable. But only 6 out of 10.
If you expect something really cool or good you better watch Shortbus.
My friend igalarzab and I watched this film years ago when we were still young and malleable. I remember we started the film well within the witching hours of the night.

I can perfectly recall my friend's facial expressions of awe and anguish during this time. I could read his thoughts in his eyes:

-Is the meaning of life to end it?
-Are we such nihilistic beings that eggs and milk are not enough, and we need to turn them into meringue, butter, clotted cream and stuff ourselves with cake?
-Those prostitutes sure aren't very professional.
-Man, I really want some cake.

Things kept happening until they didn't. And then we had a lengthly discussion during breakfast. Coffee and cigarettes were consumed aplenty while we humbly tried to discuss the matters portrait in the film, and even more, it didn't stop with the petty lifes of individuals, but also of time and space.

Breakfast turned into lunch and when it finally ended our view on life had changed. Such is the power of this film, and they call it a comedy!

My friend decided that life was in fact very much worth living after all and changed his career path from computing engineering to vaudeville compositeur. He's doing great, but now he only watches films about zombies or vampires, to avoid tainting his art.
I'm trying to breed pastel coloured ponies. It's not going so well.

Anyhow I'd advise anyone who is going to watch this film to think about it twice, because it may change you forever.

Wow! That movie was a pleasant surprise!

I watched this movie, because I like zombie movies, and I like Nicholas Hoult: especially in the TV Show Skins he was really good. By the way he also played the young boy in About A Boy with Hugh Grant; if I am not mistaken.

So... two good points to watch a movie.

This movie isn't a standard-zombie movie: Zombies moving slow (or fast^^) to eat the people which are alive and are much more less in number and that 90 minutes long.

The movie starts with the perspective how its like to be a zombie. You got "friends", you have to eat something, you got problems with your skin, you don't really like to be dead... and then you fall in love with a girl. And why that? Because you were eating the brain of her boyfriend and so you get the memories of him. Haha!

But the problem is: you are dead, so you are not very attractive. And the girl is hot. And alive. Hm! :D

And so the story goes on. With some action scenes and it is a big love story! But you cannot compare it to Twilight. Twilight is shit compared to this movie.

There are so much funny scenes in it. I got to laugh many times. The action parts are good as well!
So if you are into zombie movies you definitely gonna like this, because it is something which you 've never seen before in this Sub-Genre. Enjoy it and have some fun! =)
I really enjoyed the film and it was really nicely animated. It was sad and brought a tear to my eye like most of the films by Ghibli and those related to it. It also threw a twist in the roles played by people out in the countryside as the mother is on her own looking after her children and not once regrets (from what looks of it) dropping out of college.

The great bit was the two sides of the wolf-man/werewolf thing where one grew up to be a wolf and the other a human being. I would love to know if Ame ever came back to see his mother or he just lived out his days in the forest looking after it.

Also, the transformation looked incredibly natural, which although it is animated is incredibly difficult to define but it did not look cheesy and the camera helps this and it captures most of the beauty Ghibli are able to do in their films as well.

When you look back at it, there isn't the adventure which you usually get from Ghibli films but you don't need that to enjoy this film as I think there is a good enough storyline and it is just nice to watch.

Grey Lady Down,A Disaster movie about a sub accident, Definetly from the time era that brought us "Earthquake, Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure". Like the later mentioned movie this also takes place in one of earth's big oceans. With Actors like Charles Heston, David Carradine, Stacey Keach. Playing a whole lot of captains ;-), the story of the movie is straight forward, Sub captain (Charles Heston), advancing in the ranks to sqaudron commander, is sailing his sub for the last time before handing his boat over to his X.O. Things however dont go as planned and they collide with another vessel, With the sub sinking to the bottom and resting on a ledge, with the prospect of plummething deeper and imploding, The U.S Navy starts a rescue operation. They call in as specialist to examine assess the situation at hand. This misson is led by none other then captain gates (David Carradine).

The movies starts with building up a comfort zone seeing the crew of the sub saying their goodbyes to one captain, and welcoming the X.O. bij giving him a symbolic whistle, After that its a one way avalanche into darkness for the viewer and the crew of the neptune, It can be said that this movie is definetly to be called patriotic, and very supportive of the us Navy, Which in terms where willing to support this movie for obvious reasons, This movie should definetly be seen through 1978 glasses,as its characters all try to be Brave and bold. A Little too bold for my taste sometimes. never the less the better acting in this movie stems from Heston and Carradine, Viewing this as one of my childhood movies, which furtered feuled my intrest in for the sea, and whats beneath its surface, Ik can help but say this movie is definetly dated. and will most likely be viewed by hardcore movie goers from that era.
I watched this movie a while ago and ever since this is my index for a bad movie. It has absolutely no content, you just see the same rooms over and over again without anything happening. I'm not the kind of person who dislikes a movie just because there isn't any action in it. But this movie has absolutely no content. You just see some people walking through some rooms talking a very few words and then at the end a 5-10 minutes szene with a little "action". If you stare at a wall for 86 minutes you'll probably be more amused than watching this film. I really can't think of any logical reason someone could actually like this film. Neither could I think of a reason you would be scared. This film stole 86 minutes of my life I'll never get back. If you haven't seen this film yet I would really suggest you don't watch it even if you can't say if a movie is bad or not if you haven't watched it yet. This movie is an complete waste of time. Don't watch it, you'll regret it. Hope it helps some people to not waste their precious time.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" has no reason to exist. Spider-man is a hero everyone knows. He's been around for so long everyone is familiar with his origin, comic fan or not. Its basic pop culture. Then you have the Sam Raimi's movies. Everyone saw them. They made loads of money and they're always on TV. They are entertaining movies. "Spider-Man" gave us a good origin story in 2002. This movie simply wasn't needed. Now I gave it the benefit of the doubt. There's Burton's Batman and Nolan's. Maybe this was a different Spider-Man. A more "dark" vision perhaps! Maybe the movie spent a few minutes on the origin and then wisely moved on with its story. Maybe... well maybe it wasn't just another rehash. A shameless attempt to remake, or how they say it these days, reboot the same idea with minimal changes except the cast. I was naive. The whole movie is about Spider-Man's origin. They traded Mary Jane for another love interest and held off on "The Green Goblin" because that would be too much "rubbing it in the face" for the fans, I guess. We get Gwen Stacy and "The Lizard". The rest is same old, same old. The same uncle Ben plot, the same scenes about making the suit, learning how to control powers, the search for the criminal Spider-man lets get away with horrific results. Same thing. Except everything is done without a spark of energy or creativity. Raimi's movies were energetic, flowing with excitement. They were "new". Seeing Spider-Man on the big screen, webbing all over the city, fighting "The Green Goblin", it was amazing. We didn't have "The Avengers" back there, or "Iron Man". This was like a dream come true for comic fans. "The Amazing Spider-Man" smells of old cheese. I tried to take the movie for what it was but it was impossible. My mind would not let me. I knew what was going to happen next. I knew all the plots! I'd seen it all before! But even ignoring that deja-vu the movie just does not work. Its slow, turgid with an unlikable Peter Parker and a CGI lizard for a villain. Parker is a whiny, self centered idiot. His relationship with aunt May and uncle Ben is never fully explored and what little there is consists of Parker being a rude jerk for no reason at all. The movie has one thing going for it. The cast. Sally Field and Martin Sheen are great with what little material they have. Emma Stone is sexy and sweet which is "her thing" and again she pulls it off brilliantly. Rhys Ifans is decent as Curt Connors and surprisingly I loved Andrew Garfield as Spidey. Yes, seriously! He looks perfect for the part and he did his best with the horrible script. He's charismatic and brought his own touch to the role instead of copying Toby Maguire. If the movie is even slightly original its because of him. Some of the action in the last third of the movie is also spectacular. Spider-man's movements when fighting are really well done as is the web-slinging. The action is well directed and exciting and the movie sets up a sequel rather nicely. But its asking a lot to go over the material everyone knows for two hours for a few minutes of cool action. The movie plays it so safe it hurts. Its competent but never brilliant. Tedious and far too long with little spots of action but few and far between. I hope in the sequel this "Spider-Man" can find its own style and its own place. Given space to grow and evolve, on the strength of the character and Garfield's acting this could be the weak start to a new amazing super-hero trilogy. Then again, maybe i'm just naive.
Jack Reacher(2012)

This is by all means a lame movie.

When a movie is named after its protagonist, you'd expect the character to be well formed. Jack Reacher wasn't. As an ex-army-cop anti-hero that doesn't play by the rules, Tom Cruise's character was a tame sheep who exerted his dominance using his mouth more than his fists. "You don't want to mess with me" was his catchphrase, but in a post-1980's-world, he certainly did not look more threatening than a teenager with mood problems. Cruise's performance did the character no service either, demonstrating a single stern line of emotion that felt copy and pasted for the film's duration.

The plot ran through tropes and was predictable in its twists (i.e. if you manage to stay one step ahead of the game, you'll be predicting the whole story dead-on). The camera emphasis on prop guns (and its PG-13 rating) suggests that this movie was geared towards a certain prepubescent demographic, and the complexity of the dialogue reflected such. Dollhouses have more personality than the cast and opting to have no soundtrack made the film dryer than a bad turkey sandwich.

While there's no serious complaint about the quality (yeah, it could've been worse), but there's really no positives that can be seen. 5.0/10
Finally I 've watched the movie with some friends yesterday.

And I gotta say: It was really good. But there is happening so much. You don't even get time to breath sometimes. One incident after the next one. Bam, bam bam! And that about two hours long.

Thats not that bad if you are into an action movie. But for me, Star Trek was always more than Science Fiction with action scenes in it. And thats why the movie is only getting 8/10 points.
If I want to watch a movie with no bigger story in it, which is Science Fiction & Action based - I gonna watch Iron Man or something like that.

Nothing big is happening in the story line - that is what I missed most... maybe because of the many action scenes^^. But Star Trek Fans will like that Kahn is showing up and Tribbles too - and one scene with a windows between Spock & Kirk. But that felt more like the writers/director want do give the Star Trek fans something to like to movie more..... Hmmmmmm.. ladidadida... hm!

Something about the 3D pictures: Many scenes in that movie are happening so fast, that the whole picture is very blurry. And the director played with many close ups... which were strange to watch.
Even if the 3D effects are really good, you might consider the option to not watch it in 3D.

Well. The movie is great. And I definitely gonna watch it a second or third time.

If you are into Science Fiction or Action movies : Go to your preferred cinema theatre and enjoy.
If you also like Star Trek: Just lower a little bit your expectations and you gonna like it as well =)

Whilst writing this review for Dune, which is one of my childhood (Sci-fi Fantasy) movies.
i cant help but think that viewing the movie in our current time. the movie definatly begins to look outdated and was produced in a certain era, this shines in the movie dune. and should be seen as such.

The movie utilises a star cast with nowdays old skool actors like (Jurgen prochnov, Patrick Steward, Kyle Macalahan, Sean Young, Leonard Ciminow, Brad Dourif, and of course mucisian Sting). The music for this movie was also scored by Toto, and they did an epic job on it for that time, I think the music is also party what reflects the Sci-fi Setting in this movie.)

The story takes it time to be set up by the writers an producers, and introduces us to all the players in the Dune universe, This movie came in the wake of the first "Star wars", trilogy. and in comparison i did a poor job. This is also where the largest mistake for the average movie viewer lies. Dune isn't a simple Sci-Fi Aktion movie, It has layers of story telling, and tackles issues as faith, Perceverence, loyalty.

Whilst the movie has a decent cast there where some moments i definatly think there was quit a bit of overacting, however on thing should be noted that this movie could be viewed in some way as fantasy movie, and in this genre there is quit a bit of bolstering and overacting to reach dramatich heigts. For Dune the same counts in that regard.

For me as viewer this will definatly remain a childhood favorite.

As Draackje said, if you like the genre and the previous Predator movies you'll most likely like this one too.

It's not hugely different or ground breaking, besides the hunt taking place somewhere besides Earth maybe (not that it looks much different) and it's still a little predictable like these kinds of movies can be, but it's a decent enough action movie.

The movie start with a slow rhythm. Then the story keeps spreading. And at the end I loved the story.

But I find it little darker. Hard to see the action sometimes. So I'm giving 7/10 overall.

The animation is fantastic, however I thought the story-line could of been a bit better (still entertaining though, especially for children). My only major problem with the story was how it portrayed men. I love the film for its strong, tenacious, and nonconforming female characters, but it's unfortunate that they have to be juxtaposed to the crude, thoughtless male characters. Why can't both genders be strong, one complimenting the other instead of one controlling and/or saving the other either through brain or muscle?

Honestly I thought it was a little disappointing. I the actor for superman was perfect but the actress for Lois looked nothing like she does in all the other adaptations, and not in a good way. How hard can it be to find someone that does? It's a big pet peeve of mine.

The romance felt forced and while the acting was great some scenes/choices were stupid ("a giant supernatural fight is happening and everything is being destroyed? Lets just sit there and watch!")

This was a wonderful departure from Sci Fi/Syfy's usual crap offerings with pretty strong writing and wonderful characters. The premise itself is pretty fascinating and presents a interesting what-if for many historical characters. Let's say you'll never quite think of HG Wells quite the same way again after this show. The main characters themselves are pretty interesting, with nice backstories. Pete has the cool dude charm and Myka is frighteningly intelligent. There is an issue with idealisation of characters. Myka verges on a can-do Mary Sue who knows everything, and Pete's premonitory "feelings" remain unexplained. You'll also find out that Claudia and Jinks tend to this as well.

It is a show with a great start, but the sexual tension between the characters has worn out its welcome, and to a lesser extent the camaraderie as well. As the series progresses, the more you realise how forced the chemistry is between Pete and Myka. It doesn't help that they didn't hire the strongest actors to play the lead roles and many of their reactions to new artefacts seem unrealistic. Eddie McClintock's dude-next-door charm begins to get a little cloying as it isn't held up by the strongest characterisation on the writers' side. Myka doesn't get very much character development apart from her initial angst either.

Claudia was a wonderful change-up, but that's given the writers more room to create increasingly ridiculous and far-fetched plots. Seasons 1-2 are worth watching, but season 3 onwards, even with the introduction of Jinks, is not quite worth your time.

Too many big names involved in this show has kind of resulted in lots of mediocre people wanting to get involved too. The show has some really great points (the finale was definitely one of their best episodes) but it's also balanced out by plenty of poor points.

For example, there are some great writers who have written some of the better episodes while at the same time there are some laughably bad ones. Secondly, the character Charlie. She was poorly cast and can't act for shit which is a shame because by ignoring her parts the show's quality increases dramatically. The sudden fact that when they put her into the background of the show later in the season and the show became a lot better for most people.. is no coincidence. Casting a mediocre actor for a major role was a poor call on their part. If it was up to me though, they should have just scrapped the Charlie character all together.. although I may just be over-exaggerating due to the terrible writing for her character so far.

If you stick through to the end it's a great reward. I mean there are some great actors in this with interesting back stories (Tom, Bass, Rachel & Miles) and when the stories makes sense, they're done really well. With people like the director of Iron Man working on this there's plenty of talent, it's just that it's attracted some talentless people wanting a slice of the pie. Anyway, the finale was a great reward. Fantastic pay off. The show went back to the core story again and it's turned out to be pretty damn interesting. Also the great extras like being introduced to the Georgia Federation with their steam powered engines was brilliant as it showed that there are still wealthier countries who have made the most of the blackout. You can certainly tell when Eric Kripke's talent is showing (creator of Supernatural, worked on seasons 1-5).

There's plenty of shit episodes and boring characters but that's all balanced out by the amazing episodes and interesting characters played by some amazing actors. Not worth getting on Blu Ray/DVD but definitely worth watching. Especially considering what the finale left us with, looks like season 2 could be really great if they get rid of all the idiots who left their unwanted mark on season 1. Here's hoping.

I've just started the sixth season, so my opinion only reflects on what I've seen so far, and that's a -for me- very disturbing mixture of enjoyment and annoyance.

Since everyone knows the show's strong points (and there are quite a lot of them!), I'm not going to talk about those. But there are things that are portrayed -and perceived- as good, new, fresh, etc. that are actually really disturbing elements.

There's the obvious "new": Nerds as main characters in a popular sitcom. But no matter what you think makes a person a "nerd" (history nerds, science nerds, pop culture nerds, gamer nerds, socially inept losers.. ._.) it is obvious that the show doesn't have the audience laugh with Howard, Leonard, Raj and Sheldon. I'm too lazy to get into detail, but this is something that really bothers me.

Then, and I'm not sure what to call it (sexist?), we have Penny. Penny doesn't have a last name. She's mostly used as a writing device, as Leonard's love interest, as someone Sheldon can be arrogant at, etc. She's never really a person- And then there's her and Leonard's relationship, which is cringe-inducing. The narration is incredibly Nice Guy, with Leonard even saying things like "I was nice to you because sex", and everyone nodding along, because Leonard is such a sweet guy. Really? (Bechdel Test? Probably failed. So far, I'm not sure if there have been two women with full last names who talked about something OTHER than a guy. Might have missed it, though.)

Other issues I have are consistency (cat allergy? belts?), the constant not!progressive gay-baiting, and most importantly the way the show/characters treats Sheldon's autistic behaviour and asexuality.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching the show. I laugh, there are episodes that I've given 9+ stars, and episodes I've watched more than twice, but there is always a little voice in my head that points out all these things. And I can't help but think: The fact that those are "little" moments, moments that are easily missed, hurts even more.

If ever there was an example of intellect making someone even more attractive, it's Alice Roberts.

Though she has ruined my "It's Dr Alice! [sigh] " by becoming a Professor as it doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Sooo... this series was great :) I recently got back from an overseas trip to London where I saw an exhibit on Ice Age Art at the British Museum (I was both moved and speechless) and this was a fantastic bookend to it now that I'm home.

A few days before this shout (so obviously post show production) news has come out that scientists in the Arctic have discovered a mammoth frozen in Siberia that still has liquid blood and some fresh meat. The debate now rages on as to whether we go all Jurassic Park on it and try and clone one (though some think it is unlikely that an elephant host could bring it to term without some jiggling. Though who knows, "Life will find a way" - Michael Crichton ). Professor "Dr" Alice "[sigh]" says we shouldn't. Realistically I agree, I think it would be cruel, but damn if the 5 year old in me doesn't want to ride a woolly mammoth. (PETA, form an orderly queue)

The CGI of the beasts is really great (more fine work from "The Mill")

Hopefully this link will still be active in the future.
http://planetsave.com/2013/05/31/woolly-mammoth-found-with-liquid-blood-still-in-it-fueling-talks-of-cloning-the-animal/

The series delves in to so much more than mammoths, and covers cave bears, sabre-tooth cats, ground sloths with claws like ginsu knives and more, and how the climate changes that ended the last ice age led to these magnificent creatures demise. Well worth a watch.

(and yes, I know the fact that I think she is attractive is a terrible way to start a review of a science series. Alas, I'm scientifically a slave to my hormones)

The first episode sets a very bleak tone, which had led some people to label The Village a "misery-fest" on social networks. While the first episode is darker in tone than many Sunday night dramas, this description is unfair. I think it paints a plausibly more realistic view of country life that other recent period dramas. The characters are also much more rounded and complex than the first episode would lead you to believe.

The Village is impeccably acted by all concerned, and beautifully shot. All member's of the Middleton family are outstanding, with the young Bert a particular standout. Maxin Peake is wonderful. If you are willing to persevere, you will be rewarded. The later episodes go from strength to strength.

Being a period drama set in a similar period of British history, it is inevitable that this show got called the BBC's answer to Downton Abbey, but truthfully the shows couldn't more different. Downton has gone progressively down-hill in recent seasons, becoming more and more soapy. I see much more potential for The Village in both scope and storytelling as we move through the decades.

Peter Moffat has conceived the show as a UK version of German series Heimat with the story being told through the decades until the present day. I can't wait for season 2.

This is an awesome show. From all the different Star Trek TV shows that have been made so far this one is still my favorite, Star Trek: The Next Generation comes in on a close second :)

Some of the episodes like "Blink of an Eye", "Message in a Bottle", "Living Witness" and "The 37's" are extremely well written. The stories have everything and more to make them among science fiction tv shows and movies exceptional. I can still remember those episodes vividly even though it has been years since i have seen them.

The actors all did an amazing job over the 7 seasons in total. You can really watch them grow and evolve from a separate Starfleet and Maquis crew to a unified crew that can take on any challenge or problem that gets in their way.

I really like the red line story of a lone starship that is far from home and is trying to get back that flows through the entire TV show, and it fits perfectly into everything that Star Trek stands for: the exploration of unknown regions, making contact with new species and off course to boldly go where no man has gone before :)

It is really too bad that the careers of main actors of the show never got over the (ironically) "I Am Not Spock" type casting trope (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IAmNotSpock). It seems that they are forever stuck (as so many other actors of the other Star Trek TV shows) in the minds of millions worldwide even when they are doing something completely different as members aboard the spaceships from Starfleet....

This show was running on TV in my country. And when I turned to the TV channel at night where the show was running I turned it off - I got to say, that I never watched this. Why? I found the plot sooo stupid. Just another show with an agent, and the agent is solving different problems and cases in each episode.

Well. In some way this might be true, but there is more behind that. A bigger story.

Now I am in the second season and I gonna say, that the story develops good. Sometimes I get really surprised about the change of courses of the characters behaviour.

If you like action, technical agent gimmicks and action scenes you might consider watching this show. J.J. Abrams was the producer of this show, so you also get a mystery factor in it - but I do not want to spoiler that.
The characters are developing great during the show - but I gotta say that there are some "over-subscribed" chars... The technic-guy for example. When you see him, you know what I mean.

What I also don't like is, that in each episode there are 1 - 2 action scenes, and then the part where there is the emotional/private stuff for the characters. Thats getting boring, because you already know: "Oh action scenes are over - okay now she's talking to her dad, tears ladidaldida". ^^

If you are into spy stuff, you might try The Americans which I like far more.

I think Alias is good. 7/10.

A series with nice clean animation, some funny and enjoyable moments, and some very divisive characters (especially Kirino... you either love or hate her).

The biggest surprise for me is that despite the title of the series, and the main premise being about a guy and his little sister's embarrassing secret, the series itself is far, far less "incest-ey" (not a word, I know...) than the title would suggest. In Fact, Kyouske's interests later on in the series are most definitely set on another girl.

It's not the best series ever by any stretch and some episodes I found to be pretty dumb and unrealistic (even suspending disbelief has its limits). Your mileage may also vary depending on which of the characters you like, as some do seem to get more screen time than others (If you don't like Kirino, some episodes will be especially annoying). However, if you're able to look past that it's a series that is not without its charm. Some of the characters can be very endearing and it's nice to see a series that, in spite of its title, doesn't always play the excessive fanservice or incest card that so many other series of this type default to.

I would have never thought to watch this show if someone hadn't recommended it to me. I thought it would be dumb and corny so I was really surprised when I started watching it because it is pretty funny and refreshingly different. But the thing is I think what is funny about it is how cheesy and ridiculous it can be. I am almost done with the first season and it is getting better with each episode. They did a great job choosing the actors especially the 2 main actresses (Max- Kat Denning and Caroline- Beth Behrs)are perfect. I love how these 2 completely different girls worlds have come together and now Caroline is turning from a rich snobby girl who always had daddy's money to do with whatever she wanted, into a girl who sees how people who aren't rich have to live and now has to fend for herself with the help of the very smart mouthed Max, who has a lot of experience being poor and fending for herself but now she has a friend to help watch her back also, even though a girl like Caroline would be the last person Max would ever want anything to do with.
For some reason I'm surprised it hasn't been canned yet, it seems like that's what the network does with shows that aren't exactly like all of the other shows on tv, especially since they haven't gone out of their way to advertise this show so it's not very well known as it should be.

The dialogue and the cases are the best part of this show. It's quick, witty and realistic. Some of the characters which come off one dimensional (Arroyo) and need more fleshing out i.e.. not being a villain just for a villain's sake. But for some reason as much as I try to like the main character Theo James plays, the actor seems to be overacting every scene (including an awful lot of jaw clenching ) which makes the already ambitious Clark seem obnoxious and ungrateful. That's not to say James isn't a good actor but unlike a movie where's there's less time to get to the point, TV needs to be acted with the long game in mind as you have time to develop the character. Chi McBride plays his usual good cop role and he's as believable as ever. The story is really about the gray area cops live in and what it really takes for a cop to be good at their job and gain recognition without sacrificing their integrity and the show will need to work on balancing that for each of the main characters in order to keep the audience's interest. Beyond that its an slightly above average cop drama (But it's no Southland) with an overarching flash-forward storyline to reward repeat viewers, definitely worth a watch. Plus Theo James is very nice to look at!

This is a terrible show.

It's poorly written, poorly directed, poorly acted, has completely unbelievable characters, and the laugh track is unbearably annoying.

Don't waste thirty minutes of your life watching an episode.

Just heard on the news that James Gandolfini died of an heart attack while on vacation in Italy.

May he rest in peace. Just like with Michael Clarke Duncan this was a very talented man who died way to early. I will always remember him as the mafia crime boss who managed to show the world through an awesome tv show that even Mafia crime lords can have family and business troubles and that they have to deal with those in their own (sometimes violent) way.

I guess I have generally preferred the more realistic and thus cringe-worthy British version, but the US version has definitely expanded upon and created new paths for itself. However, the last few seasons weren't as funny as the first, and the final season dragged on. Sometimes US shows just don't know when to stop....
The idea of focusing on a specific character starts to settle in a little here as one of my favourite characters, George Sr, becomes the focal point. Given the inversion of the power structure at the end of the third series, George is given a bit more of free reign to move around and interact with other characters. I particularly liked Oscar's gaggle of hippy-ish friends including Mr John Slattery. The time-jumping from the first episode is still present as the sequence of events following Development Arrested is shown. George moves into the sweat lodge business but helping people reach spiritual enlightenment is actually the last thing he has on his mind.

The search for profit doesn't go entirely to plan and George is forced to push a local politician to press for the wall between Mexico and the US that he had originally planned on building. As the lines between Oscar and George blur further, Oscar is able to find out the truth about the purchase of the land. It's not a surprise that Lucille is again behind the acquisition but all the double dealing gets a little dull, and even the injection of Barry Zuckercorn into the proceedings can't lighten things. No doubt the repercussions of the plan will be revealed, but setting the background is a little tedious.
Any show that comes back after a hiatus as long as Arrested Development had faces a problem: stick closely to the original formula or forge a new path? Experimentation is the order of the day as the Netflix format means all the episodes were released at once. The schedules of the actors involved means not all of the characters can appear in every episode, leaving the show with a slightly different feel to the first three series. Nonetheless, it takes a lot to offset the pleasure of seeing these characters again after a passage of time in-universe. I didn't think having Mr Seth Rogen as George Sr worked particularly well in the opening sequence. He doesn't look like Mr Tambor and his presence distracts too much. Ms Wiig, however, does an excellent impersonation of Lucille's mannerisms.

The problem I had with this episode is the fact that Michael cuts a pathetic character throughout. I struggle to believe he would force himself on Lucille 2 in the way that he does and his smothering of his son seems forced. I understand the need to manoeuvre the characters into certain situations but I feel it could have been done in a more convincing, natural way. This, combined with the odd pacing and different feel made it feel like a pale imitation of the classic show. I really hope that this is just a settling in period for the new series.
It should probably come as no surprise that Lucille is the brains behind the Bluth Company, as her manipulation of everyone throughout the series has been obvious to all except those being manipulated at the time. There's some nice symmetry with the pilot episode here as Michael is forced to compromise most of his ideals by his mother to keep the company afloat. Speaking of afloat, the party to announce Michael taking over as CEO takes place on Buster's worst fear - a boat, although one that is stuck to the dock. Naturally it doesn't stay that way for long and seeing him reunited with his arch-nemesis is good to see.

As a finale, this episode feels a little muted and understated, but the ending is pleasing enough - Michael and his son are finally free, although not completely, from the family that have ground them down for three years and George Michael's problem with his cousin is removed from his hands by his father. It all seems wrapped up, more or less, and if this had been the true end of the series it wouldn't have been an unsatisfying one. I particularly liked the Ron Howard section at the end - very witty.
Lucille's fib that vodka goes back after it's been opened is great, and Tobias jumping at the prosecution contacting him because he assumes it's a procedural on CBS is a good joke - I love his woman's suit complete with a bow on the front. George Michael wanting to have a birthday party for his cousin is touching but whether he's doing it for the right reasons is questionable. Gob going to Iraq to perform Christian magic at the prompting of his Christian girlfriend probably proves that he will go to any lengths for someone he's infatuated with even to the detriment of himself and his family.

Buster has his own problems as he is used by various elements of the medical school for different exercises all because of his desire to win the heart of his crazy carer but his effort to tell her he loves her is, predictably, met with a slap. Everything goes wrong for the family seemingly, with Gob stuck in Iraq and Buster following him to prove his love. Lindsay and Lucille go to rehab and are totally unable to connect with one another. The scene is well set for the finale and it should be a great one.
I loved the marriage certificate with Mr Schwarzenegger's face on it that arrives for George Michael after his real wedding to his cousin, and Michael's search for his sister takes centre stage - the mysterious 'Nellie'. I liked Buster's carer falling madly in love with him as long as he doesn't move or speak, forcing him to stay in a coma. The old computers that are dug out so that George Sr can erase the evidence are nice to see. Michael meeting his 'sister' has a nice sequence where the audience is presented with what the other members of the family are doing - all boring with the exception of Buster's crazy carer.

The misunderstanding over Nellie's profession is pretty entertaining, and leads to some funny scenes as she explains her ground rules to the office in an astonishingly profane speech. Tobias worrying about the carbs from having a drink made me laugh and the Mr F revival is a nice touch. Nellie's ultimate identity is revealed and Michael's quest goes unfulfilled. Another sleazy layer to the Bluth Company business practices is revealed but it's not surprising, and nothing is left at the end of the day but embarrassment for everyone involved.
Seeing Judge Reinhold as a real judge in a reality television show is one of my favourite moments this season - and the return of 'you're a crook, Captain Hook' as a sore point for Michael. George Michael, meanwhile, sees a great opportunity to spend some more quality time with Maeby getting mock married for the elderly patients at the hospital, leading to one of my favourite lines from the character so far - 'It's a great day... for being sad.' Assertions that the two do not have any feelings for one another don't ring true though and the 'cut and run' joke is inspired.

The idea that a newly dyed Franklin is going to take the stand is typically unorthodox and the talking magazine making fun of Reinhold's name is a highlight. The idea that Michael's real name is Nichael and he's going to be a patsy for George Sr is a nice deepening of a storyline that's been running for three seasons. Buster going into a fake coma ties in nicely with the theme of faking it generally and there are a number of nice little jokes throughout on this. Every character is faking it in some way or other, and the results are pretty funny as it happens.
Many parts are over acted, but this is still a refreshment after watching a few episodes of Castle.
I know right, this episode was cute. ♥
Hell yes so glad this started again
*gag reflex* nasty, nasty, NASTY! never have I been so disgusted by food.
Jenny is annoying. Superstitious and clingy.
Despite the facepalming superstitions of Castle I slightly enjoyed this episode. The writers went 100% silly and stuck with it.
