Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. At her engagement party, she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage and falls down a hole in the garden after spotting an unusual rabbit. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called 'Underland,' she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and frumious bandersnatches. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason--to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the rightful queen to her throne.

The best use of 3D technology I saw in 2010. The visuals are beautiful (no darker than the rest of Burton's oeuvre) and actually serve the narrative, which works well enough as a coming-of-age tale. Altogether a fine entertainment.
I get the hate and agree that this movie left quite a bit to be desired. There was so much territory unexplored and basically Alice in Wonderland (and fragments of Through the Looking Glass) became another vehicle to sell "Johnny Depp and Tim Burton do something together".

However, for those suffering from massive disorders of psychotic thought, Johnny Depp's performance is eerily spot on, and I was nearly moved to tears (and rated ten exactly for) at the line "It's awfully crowded in here".

See it if you love Tim Burton or Johnny Depp or wonder what Disney's canon post-animation for Wonderland is outside of Kingdom Hearts. Don't see it if you want to see Carroll shown any real honor on the silver screen.

I saw this movie in a full packed cinema. Here in the Netherlands we don't walk out of movie and demand our money back, but i am pretty sure that most of those with me who saw it thought this movie was a disappointment afterwards.

The 3D feature was a joke. And that is putting it lightly. It was nothing more than an extra layer they put over the movie to make it look like 3D. It was nothing like in Avatar or How To Train Your Dragon, more like that other failed "3D" movie: Clash of the Titans. Its obvious that the only reason they put it in there was because it was the hype of the time and it would attract more visitors (AKA: more tickets, more money) to the cinema.

I have to say i was very disappointed in Tim Burton. I expected more of him, this story seemed right up his alley. But he put way too much devotion into making the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) as the star of the movie instead of Alice who seemed more to be the supporting cast than the main star.

All in all i would say: go see it once, WITHOUT the 3D effect and than forget it ever existed.
fell asleep half way through, didn't appeal to me at all
