As a World War II "comfort woman," Harumi (Yumiko Nogawa) must sexually service hundreds of lonely soldiers, whether she likes them or not. But when she turns to a good-hearted army attendant (Tamio Kawachi) to thwart the attentions of his cruel commanding officer (Isao Tamagawa), she ends up falling in love -- and putting her paramour at odds with his duties. Seijun Suzuki directs this tragic Japanese drama based on a novel by Taijiro Tamura.
