lesbians and fossils - what more could you want?

Kate Winslet's potato peeling skills would have starved her back then.

I wanted to like this, but for whatever reason I just found it alright. The acting is good, especially Kate Winslet's performance, but the storyline is kind of weak

Quality performances, gorgeous scenery, the soundtrack is wonderful, the costume design and set production are top-notch. Absolutely adored this gem of a film!

Waves crashing against rocks. A violence of nature that extracts fossils from the past. This subtle, silent relationship also hides the confrontation with the conventions, the clash of social classes so different that they seem like those sea monsters in struggle represented in the paintings. The beach is the space of freedom, but you also have to fill up with mud to build something together. Love against rules.

A quiet film with roaring waves in the background. In more ways than one.
The camera often focuses on hands and sometimes feet. This seems to bring an extra personal level to it rather than the usual focus on faces alone.
It has a steady pace but I didn't find myself losing interest or clock watching.
An interesting insight into two women from very different lives who develop an incredible bond slowly but surely.

A quiet, meditative film that lulls you into its rhythm. A nice mix of history (Mary Anning was real) and fiction (we know nothing of her love life). Not for everyone and nothing unmissable but I really enjoyed it and could see myself viewing it again one day if in the right mood.

A familiar story of repressed passion although there is far more than furtive glances and secret touching in this surprisingly explicit film. The sex isn’t the selling point of course, although it is sometimes jarring in this otherwise sensitively handled love story.

The two of them have great chemistry.

Loved the whole ambience.

Pretty good.

ASMR for Victoriania loving lesbian aficionados. So much more could have been presented to round out the beach-combing fossil hunter. Laborious at times, and over does the tonal sweeps of the camera over insectivora or crustaceans of various kinds . Lost the historical figure amidst the nods to Tipping the Velvet. Acting top-notch. More a watch than a listen, except for the well exercised foley artist.

I really enjoyed how certain aspects were highlighted by sound, no music just the actual sound things make.

A lot of standing in doorframes that are either too small or too big while not saying anything.

Sadly, I wish that I had rewatched Portrait of a Lady on Fire instead.
