Black Christmas 2006

First time watching this remake and I genuinely enjoyed it. Of course it’s nowhere as good as the original, but as far as remakes go it's decent enough and I like the direction this goes. It's a fun festive horror that offers all the gory fun that you would come to expect from a slasher with so much style and atmosphere. My only complaints are that the girls could have had a bit more personality because I still can't tell who is who. Overall this is a great remake.

Talk about f***ing up a classic, Black Christmas is a disgrace that’s unfit to bear the name. In this reboot the residents of a sorority house, which has a bloody history, are killed off one by one during a severe snow storm. There’s no real mystery or intrigue to the plot, just senseless violence and killing. And while the cast is first rate (Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lacey Chabert), they’re completely wasted playing bland, stereotypical characters. Additionally, the violence is extremely gruesome and lacks any subtlety. Sadistic garbage, Black Christmas is an ugly and vulgar film.

You know, this wasn't as bad as I remembered it to be.

I mean, after the 2019 remake, this looks like a masterpiece in comparison.

A brutal slasher with no holds barred from start to finish. If you don't get hung up on the fact that it's a remake, you can enjoy the insane ride filled with holiday cheer.

"Black Christmas" from 2006 feels a bit like someone wanted to do a remake of "Silent Night, Deadly Night" but was forced to settle for 1974's "Black Christmas." The story does have a few similarities to the original, but tonally, this is more akin to a generic holiday slasher and not the kind of "elevated horror" that I think the first movie represents. There's certainly no mystery set up here; instead, the backstory of the bloody sorority house is explored in every boring detail.

Furthermore, none of the actresses here can match the charm of Olivia Hussey or Margot Kidder in the original. With Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, there are a few more or less well-known names in the cast, but nobody is good here. Of course, it doesn't help that most of the characters don't act in a comprehensible way. A few of the kills, which at least offer a bit of gore from time to time, are the closest to being impressive. They also ensure that the movie is still barely worth seeing for slasher fans.

If you ignore the fact that this is intended as a remake of the 1974 classic it's actually a pretty decent colorful fun campy gory slasher. I see it as an alternate dimension version. It has some memorable moments and the deaths look cool but it seems like the characters are made of paper or something as they die very easily. The killers were cool and the backstory was a nice addition it was pretty jarring. Some edge of your seat moments and the third act was wild - well actually the whole thing was wild!

I enjoyed the present day portion's of the film but I feel the backstory is largly uneeded and we spend way too much time on it. It's alright for a modern horror remake but doesn't come close to the original in terms of plot or character's.

This was at the height of the remake craze and it shows. Using the Black Christmas name but having so little to do with it or making any attempt at remaking it, other than just cashing in on the name.

It's fun, it's gory, it's not using much logic in any way, shape or form.

It definitely loses a couple points because almost every kill is off screen, but hey that's early 2000 horror for ya.
Good for a night of silly horror with a group of friends. Nothing more nothing less.

You’ll appreciate it more if you watch the newer remake. Though it does lose points for brutally killing a beautiful talented cast.

A cast of beautiful talented actresses are slaughtered and wasted. By a crazy yellow guy and his sister/daughter. That’s about it, one dimensional characters with no build up, killed violently.
Black Christmas at least kept my interest until the end, due to the cast. Afterwards all the silliness and ugliness left a bad taste in my mouth.
