Bob Roberts 1992

Very good satire. Very true. Shows how's you can use/abuse nationalism to manipulate the masses and how a non political background candidate (in this case business) can give the appearance of being the real alternative vote. Appealing to persoanl greed and making it seem fair. Trump anyone?
The usual political campaign stuff like telling people what they want to hear / blatant lies. Creating a persona and all the acting and charm with that. Using scripts but turning to an exaggerated gut response when venturing from the script..it's got it all.
Bob's even making money from music as he's going along. He calls a little girl that send him a card a future soldier. The American dream as a business (global domination with war) has a cost.

Corruption. Hypocrisy. Information and damage control. The war machine. Shadow government. Media control. The nature of voters. It goes on.

Bravo Tim Robbins. I don't find it rant or liberal propaganda. More of a story of a man.

Pretentious critique of the American political system.

This movie is so bland. It has LONG segments of people singing folk songs just to stretch the movie out. Doesn't reach any conclusions or make a point. Really a waste of time.

"Bob Roberts is yet another of that faction that lives to destroy whatever good came out of the 60s, to rewrite the history of that important period. A period where the American people actually were informed and aware, and realized that they had a voice. They demanded that a war end. Bob Roberts is Nixon, only he's shrewder, more complicated, this Bob Roberts. Now here is a man who has adopted the persona and mindset of a free-thinking rebel and turned it on itself. The Rebel Conservative! That is deviant brilliance. What a Machiavellian poser." - The interviewer of Bob Roberts in an early scene... VERY TIMELY.
