Started promisingly but then faded to boredom as it went on. 4/10.
I love horror movies so it don't take much for me to be entertained especially when it's based on real life
Visually accomplished, though the story is only hanging on by a thread.
typical boring horror , half the movie is shot in the dark, the other half i seen a thousand times
Starts out promising but the ending is pretty disappointing.
At first was interested then bacame so boring after 30 min
Normally I don't really get into the Exorcist - type demonic possession kind of movies but occasionally I'll sit through one. This one was actually quite a pleasant surprise, in spite of being your typical "exorcism" movie. The fact that it was "inspired by events" (differing slightly from "based on a true story") made it a bit more interesting, as well. The first half of the film had a few jump scares and little more (although the storyline in and of itself was still good) but the back half had plenty to watch for. In addition to the normal "exorcist" supernatural-type stuff, you had your gruesome scenes, a fair amount of blood-spatter, and even some high-tension moments thrown in there (the lions) that gave this a nifty little twist as opposed to most of the Exorcist - wannabe films floating around out there nowadays. It was a tad cheesy, yes, but I have to admit to enjoying the way this one came to a close, and again, the fact that it was "inspired by actual events" gave it an extra little "oomph" in my own personal opinion. It may not be for everyone, but I found it enjoyable and definitely worth watching.
That exorcism scene was intense.
Glad they could do without the … expulsion they so often do.
That was a great demonic possession flick. It could have been a bit shorter, but I thought it was well done from start to finish.
Creepy parts were mildly predictable but well executed, story was what you’d expect out of a possession move and the only thing that let it down was the priest. He seemed out of place and a little too ‘modern’. Although if it was your typical white bearded 90 yr old, it would have felt cheezy.
I like this genre, and I was glued to it the whole time. Solid performances all around. Hope the kid had fun in therapy after the filming.
It was okay but went on a little too long for my taste and I got bored and had to take lots of breaks from watching. It was also a bit too religious for me and I didn’t like the main character (he doesn’t like cats)
The best thing about this movie is you completely forget about it until you watch it again and it's better than you remembered.
Dirty Harry and his exorcisms ...;)
Deliver Us From Evil, it starts off in a rather unusual location, following scouts in 2010 Iraq, giving us a brief action sequence. Things take a turn for the worse and the 3 person group discovers an underground mine where something goes wrong. Cut ahead 3 years, we follow Ralph Sarchie, played by the talented Eric Bana, he and his partner get involved with a strange case of a wall painter having to do something with the supernatural. Sarchie is put in a desperate situation, as he continues to follow the case, his mental state begins to deteriorate.
What makes the movie intriguing, like Sinister, is the mystery element that's written into here, and the clever cinematic techniques that play into delivering the audience clues. Notice how all the jump-scares in the movie are only done using animals or the wall painter? They're not randomly placed jumps for the sake of having them. All the possessed people clawing on the ground, a trait of that typically of cats? I'm going to waste time going through all the little tie-ins that connect with either character traits or story conclusions, but it's there. It's pretty smartly written actually. But with that said, what drags the movie down at points is the slow pace and uninteresting scenes with the father Sarchie interacts with, played by Édgar Ramírez. I think the man is a great actor, but parts of the story where he was around dragged the story to a halt. I'm not sure if they really could cut out some of his scenes, as this was adapted from a book and supposedly "real-life" events, so whatever. Another unfortunate problem is some scenes are unnecessarily long. A little trimming in the editing room could've helped a bit. But overall, satisfaction wise, there's a lot to like here. It's not the standard horror trope fare some reviewers are pushing it as. Derrickson's brilliance is still all over the picture and I just had fun seeing his direction mixed with the great soundtrack. One thing I would've liked to see more of was the detectives combing through security footage and finding creepy shit. There was some of that, but it was few and far between. Add more of that, and this movie would've bumped up even more.
Interesting mix of genres in this movie. Really well executed too.
If you enjoyed Sinister, you will enjoy this creepy joy ride
I really liked this movie, especially the priest character...
If you want a good movie then i recommend it
Decent film. Good acting from everyone
Surprisingly good. A few good scares!
Whilst watching this I suddenly had the notion my neighbours might think what on earth is happening; the soundtrack and dialogue taken out of context must sound horrendously disturbing!
Based on the true story of an NYC cop I only have to ask myself how people manage to get over something this shocking?
Screw this movie, the trailer made it out that he's family was being stalked by some kind of ghost since the beginning. When in reality it was like a crappy Shield episode where it just happens that a demon is screwing with this cop becuase he's investigating some weird cult case.
SCREW THAT LYING POS TRAILER!!!
Few people in cinema. I like the police take him unbeliever to believer in these things. You'll hear the Doors differently

I liked it. It's not the best movie ever made, but it had it's moments, there where some shockers that even got me (and that happens seldom) and all in all I had fun. I have to agree with Gazoo69 about the exorcism, though. That was a bit long and all in all quite disappointing. Other than that, a tad to religious for my taste.
But besides that a good movie. Was fun watching it!
