Good horror/thriller film. Great performances throughout and a very satisfying unexpected ending. Definitely worth the watch.
Realistic, merciless and very engaging. Eden Lake is a great horror movie.
I am legit shocked at this movie's high rating and regard. This movie is nonsensical garbage that tries to beat you over the head with some kind of heavy-handed political commentary about 'youths' and the division of classes and maybe child abuse and bad parenting and also psychopaths? It's all an absolute mess and it's so shoe-horned in that it's laughable.
The movie does do a decent job of using emotional tugs and music to try and keep the viewer engaged, hoping you'll forget how little sense everything makes, how bad the writing is, and just how fucking stupid the two lead characters are. This emotional manipulation and that gut-punch ending out of nowhere is the only reason I can think of for the high rating and cult following this movie has.
Soo damn good! Very intense, harrowing and infuriating thriller. Speaks out about troubled youth and the depths they can sink to. The viscous cycle that creates these kinds of monsters are all to real, and that much more disturbing.
Apparently only one family lives in this town. Very unrealistic situation. And with the ending, it was a lot of build up to nothing!
Even good actors/actresses star in shit movies
Social commentary that isn't far fetched. A small amount of negative imdb commentors project themselves into the situation and get frustrated. I don't understand them getting annoying by comparing what is basically a slasher with chavs, to ones own survival fantasy and logic. Logic in a fictional movie? This movie isn't even meant to be a real story, it's meant to have realism to it. Somehow this confuses people? The realism was the reflection of society within the characters. The story was illogical at times and simply moved us from A to B for entertainment and pace sake. I'd have liked a better story myself but it wasn't to be, and it wasn't the main motivation of the movie anyway. If you wanted a real story it would probably have been two people hiding in a bush for a very long time.
I think this movie just made people uncomfortable for some reason.
The ending made perfect sense for me because the main villain had himself played out a violent revenge fantasy . It left us with obvious answers about environment and upbringing, but also gave us some more questions about personal responsibility, morality, culture and ego.
It's sad that backwards horror characters, once an appropriate setting in dark places of the USA, are now well placed in Britain. The main good guy characters could have had a little more weight to them so we cared about them.
Even though i didn't give much of a score i believe it is decent one. Nice thriller a bit more psychological than plain goring. Am the one that enjoyed the ending, a nice fit to the movie
Ridiculous. Nothing is realistic enough to make you feek like it could happen to you, wich to me is the key to a great horror film. Lets never run away and hide right next to my attackers.
Ending legit pissed me the hell off. If pissing off viewers was its mission then it did a magnificent job with me! I think it's the angriest a movie has ever left me.
I'd give anything to actually see the entire group of fucking kids die a horrible death, seeing the girl get run over was exceedingly goddamn satisfying.
"go to the police" teehee sleeps and then wakes up and watch you die, forget they have your phone and do something stupid All of this to say teenager bad because parents bad. All of these British characters make the worst choices possible and no one does anything about the problem itself. It fails to keep the suspension of disbelief, it fails to make a good slasher and the horror can't even be good since you don't believe the character can make a good choice where it will lead to a bad outcome.
Great movie to watch if you want to have a bad time. Similar to those "watch it once and never again" movies like 'IRREVERSIBLE' or 'Requiem for a Dream' because I'm still upset thinking about it a year later.

Not an easy watch for sure but it's hard to take it seriously. I liked the violence and gore in this film, it's suspenseful and adrenaline-pumping, but those unrealistic teenager behaviour threw me off. If you looking for a film like this but far more realistic with believable characters, watch Funny Games (1997)!
I gave this a 7.
Unlike some reviews I read, I believe the director did a pretty decent job making the punks unlikable.
I was happy to see some retaliation from the victims, and I didn't predict the ending till almot the end.
I t seemed to start a little bit slow but so does everybody 's last traumatic day on earth, you just don't see what's going to happen till the end.
For me nicely done.
I really liked it, very tense movie.
Not bad, but also nothing special. Feels like the story already been told many times..
one of the BEST movies !
1st Quarter: Worldbuilding like "Deliverance"
2nd Quarter: Story the same as "Deliverance"
3rd Quarter: Well, its "Deliverance"
4th Quarter: The End is cuttet before a good Idea should rise
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Eden Lake’:
This movie was flat-out infuriating. Not only because this couple had 437 opportunities to avoid what transpired, but also because the main antagonist never got the comeuppance we were eagerly holding our breath for. Major ugh.
I was okay with the ending, as bleak as it was. Did I understand that closing scene? Not so much. But I guess I can appreciate the fact it wasn’t an ending I saw coming.
If I watched my soon-to-be husband get repeatedly stabbed and take a razor blade to the tongue, best believe I wouldn’t just stand there like an incapacitated clown. (see thought one)
Shitty parents raise some shitty kids.
Grim. Great performances. Breaking inter generational dysfunction is a real challenge.
This was really good. The ending actually took my by surprise. I definitely recommend this move to watch. It is worth it
8/10
After 15yrs
This is still a great movie
And still holds up very
well today.
I've always enjoyed this
Movie it's shocking and brutal and Terrifying.
This actually happened to someone in my family,
Well actually it was so much worse it made front page news in many papers nationally and was on news and radio.
So I have a real attachment to this story
And I absolutely know how real these situations can actually be and kudos to this movie because believe me it was accurate AF.
This was tame compared to what happened in real life to someone very very
Close to me.
That said
The acting is solid
Jenny is amazing
She deserved better
And I hated who I was
Meant to hate with a
Passion and rooted for
Jenny and Steave.
The first act is slow but
by the 3rd it definitely gets
Dialed up to 11.
Upsetting movie and at times a hard watch but
Well worth it's time,
I love this genre
as I do this movie.
The kind of horror that's so good you're afraid to watch it again.
Really good suspenseful movie!! Sadly I didn’t enjoy the ending so much. The poor girl had been through enough and still can’t make it to safety. Still a really good movie though
Now I went into this movie without any expectations, and without any clue as to what the story was about and now the only thing going through my head when the credits starting rolling was the pure and utter disappointment that this wasn't a movie about some kind of lake creature attacking unsuspecting sunbathers.
I'm severely disappointed by this, otherwise it wasn't a bad movie, but I also wouldn't go as far to say that it was good. I feel that I'd have enjoyed this a lot more if I wasn't so good at guessing plot twists, but that's more of a me problem than a problem with the movie. The characters were strong and the acting was decent, there wasn't really much room for character development which I think actually works in the favour of this movie since I feel the director was trying to have as unlikable characters as possible, so that the audience hated them, I think that was the whole point. I will say there were a couple plot holes I noticed but nothing that really took away from the story.
Ultimately it was pretty enjoyable, I'd probably watch it again now that I know what it's about just to go through any other details that I might have missed whilst waiting for a lake monster that didn't appear.
Too much and too little.
I started watching the movie and the first 20 minutes were really boring, the movie has some scenes that don't need to have. The action scenes are explicit and really hurtful, after a while, I was feeling the pain and sadness that Jenny felt, her sensation of hopeless and not being able to scape.
The end really hurt me, I was hoping to get a happy ending for the main characters but instead, we got some terror and the bullies got away with it.
The interpretation of the roles, to me, was amazing, I truly believed them all.
i think it would be a great movie, however, they have chosen to do it so emotional... it would be so much better if it was raw as fuck!
