No idea, why the movie is rated so terrible.
It sure isn't Star Trek or Star Wars, but it doesn't aspire to be.
The cast is solid, the story is believable - this is definitely one of the better SciFi Movies of this decade (and the last, since we just started one :) )

it's not an absolutely horrible movie. In fact, I believe this might have the potential to make for a fairly decent tv series instead. The funniest thing in this movie was how they experienced high winds INSIDE the spaceship as they jumped to warp speed.
