High Sierra 1941

Bogie coming into his own here, but doing so in an otherwise bland crime-doesn't-pay, not-quite-noir picture. Takes a long time to get to where it's going, especially in some odd scenes involving a romantic interest's club foot? Ultimately forgettable, despite some fun location shooting and the inclusion of the dog Pard, the third main character.

The movie that showed that Humphrey Bogart could star in a movie. Black cinema of the good directed Raoul Walsh and co-written by John Huston. Need we say anything else?
