Cute, imaginative and beautiful animation good movie to watch with kids. Felt a bit long in some parts but overall I lucked it!
:heart:x7
If you are looking for something fun, cute, heartfelt, and sweet to watch. Then this is for you.
The first 15 minutes or so, are quite sad as it shows Sam's lifelong string of bad luck and yet somehow she manages to keep her spirits high.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Quite boring. I expected more from an Apple production. Script was quite boring and predicated. As if it was written by someone following a university course: how to write a story. Way too many weird stereotypes.
Cat’s animation was on point.
Kudos to the Spanish subsidiary of Skydance (formerly known as Ilion Animation Studios) for the very imaginative and satisfying animation but the moral of the story was very problematic, reeking of fatalism and mysticism to the point of being borderline religious, instead of cultivating rational thinking and healthy coping skills in children.
I was hoping that at some point the movie would reveal that the Good Luck Land was running a scam, that the magic was a hoax [since they already revealed that (un)lucky moments were being randomly distributed in the human world], and explain to Sam that good/bad luck is only a matter of perception. People who view themselves as chronically unlucky do so because of cognitive biases/distortions that become internalized as part of their self-schema and is usually a symptom of mental illness (depression, anxiety disorders etc.).
Also, when the luck lines got severed and the dragon said that now the world will know only bad luck, that made no sense. If anything, the only things that the world would've been deprived of would be (what we perceive as) extremely good or extremely bad luck, so just average luck which would be a very good outcome for the world. That would mean less socioeconomic inequalities, less poverty, less suffering etc.
Instead, the movie went with the belief that we need bad luck to appreciate the good (which is a very privileged and characteristically Christian thing to say). It's like telling people who were born in extreme poverty or with disabilities or genetic illnesses to be thankful for their bad luck.
Also also, the film's insistence on a "forever family" being the sole goal and source of happiness for a foster kid was... weird, and didn't seem very healthy. I mean, it's okay for a kid to wish they will be adopted but for Sam to be so single-minded and risk literally everything, felt like another missed teaching opportunity. I wonder if this pattern of conservative beliefs was intentional. This movie was amazing! If you love cats and cute animals this movie is for you
It looks good, but something feels off about the mouths of characters when they talk. It really distracted me. Like it’s a bad dub.
I like how creative it is. The story is sweet (and a bit sad) and the idea behind the Lucky World is amazing. The problem is, most of Sam’s bad luck isn’t that funny and it doesn’t make that much sense either. Still had an okay time watching it, though.
The animation was great. I also believe Apple should put more focus on animation.
I found this quite boring, couldn't finish. Also, most of the "bad luck" was just clumsiness. As a clumsy person (I'm on the spectrum and we are often clumsy), I always find this super irritating. People always think clumsiness can be fixed by "trying harder" or "paying more attention." Equating it to bad luck reinforces the idea that it can just be fixed, instead of accepting there are people in the world who drop things a lot.
It is a fun movie. The land of luck and the land of bad luck make for a good discussion afterwards.
Worth watching, I enjoyed it. Felt like a fresh concept and was executed well.
the first bit goes over Sam's backstory in foster care and shows her ages out of care which can be a tricky topic in my house, but I found it portrayed sensitively and the movie didn't linger on it unnecessarily.
Great anime. Even better than inside out...
Very imaginative and cute. A little long in the middle but it has a very nice ending.
Only for kids. Poor script ans I find the animal’s design not appealing.
It’s a bad copy of a Pixar movie. Lack of heart
I enjoyed this movie but I wish they took out the cats voice changing from Irish to English. I wished that the girl had adopted her foster sister even though you can’t adopt until 21 haha
Watched it with the fam, it was good! go see!
Great movie. Very cute, and a good story. Very much worth the the watch time.
Super cute movie! I loved it. Bob was so cute. Fantastical - Sam would definitely have some trauma happening. Great ending but let me just tell you - there are few animated characters I hate more than Captain!!! What a mean character for no reason.
This one had me Laughing Out Loud on so many levels, well worth a watch ;-)
Hilarious, definitely one of the best movies available on Apple TV.
My kids were in fits of laughter.
It was so cute i loved it all.
I feel like I have said that but I am going to say it one more time. Apple animations drawing skills suck. If that movie was made by other animation studio, e.g. Pixar, it would probably by 8+ stars IMDb rating. Yes, the story is good. But that is not enough for an animation movie. At least for me.
Refreshing to see a kids movie that is not full of innuendo and pushing an agenda. Hopefully more studios like this can put out quality movies.
Its an adorable little movie that your kids will love and you as parents can endure and get a few laughs along the way,
[tv+] Too indebted to other emotional worlds like "Inside out" (2015) or even "Monsters, Inc." (2001), but with much less conviction, conventional character design, and a general lack of ideas for creating a compelling universe. There is excellent musical work by John Debney, which sometimes collides with superfluous character development. It has some remarkable moments that get lost in an ineffective set.
I’m about 15 minutes in and the main character is ANNOYINGLY unlucky… I’ll keep posting.
Tears of joy burned so hot on my cheek. I'd be hard pressed to say which is better between this and, "Inside Out." Nice to see Pixar doesn't have the animation market cornered.
:taco::taco::taco::taco:
Jane Fonda almost sounded like Phyllis Diller (no disrespect -- just the opposite).
Animated garbage to sedate your kids for 90 minutes
Really, REALLY cute movie, especially for those of us who sometimes feel like we don't fit into society or have depression! One of the scenes really hit me in the feels. It's a movie that I think both kids and adults will be able to enjoy.
Very cute movie, devoid of any political or social narrative, just a fun movie to watch. You can see why Apple promoted this so heavily, it's equally on par with, and better than, most of the animated movies in the past decade.
i like the concept of it all. It's very relatable to our lives like when things go wrong and we blame it on our luck. We probably feel down and everything but hey, you just need to see past that and understand that sometimes bad luck isn't ALL that bad.
Apple is on to something with competing with Pixar. This movie is a little drawn out though. But it’s still a cute movie and nice animations. 7/10. Maybe 8/10 if I’m feeling :asterisk_symbol:lucky:asterisk_symbol: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)
6.5
not perfect but fun to watch and a pretty originally idea thats not been done too much.
Didn't meet my (to be fair very high) expectations but I still enjoyed it (as an adult I might not be the targeted audience)
as a German Jeff made me laugh a lot xD
Pegg as bob is somehow both fitting and weird
ending was good but a littleee bit too soppy for my liking but I hate soppy stuff so I might be too judgy lol
mediocre story one time watch worthy movie
Not bad. Yes, it had long scenes, but watchable and entertaining. Yes, this is a WATCH.

Very imaginative! They nailed the way a cat behaves in the animation at the beginning of the movie. Cute, funny, and heartfelt. Definitely worth a watch.
