Miss Baek 2018

Positively heart-wrenching at points. Han Ji-Min was amazing as Miss Baek, portraying the character in all her flawed glory and badassery, while the rest of the cast contributed amply as well. Might make an uncomfortable watch to some, but still a very important movie that tackles the very serious issue of child abuse head on.

Heartbreaking retale of unfortunately true events that make this movie a must watch. While it is a difficult movie to get trough because it's subject matter, it is more compelling when you have performances like the ones where on screen.

Korean movie Miss Baek is like your own sex tape: hard to watch but you find yourself personally invested in it and glad that you came in the end.

Ignoring my puerile analogies, for a moment: Miss Baek is a brutal film in which the first two acts are littered with child abuse, though moments of compassion and the calming music help to make the scenes in between bearable. The third act even introduces some surprise elements of suspense that break up the melodrama and clichés so that, despite its flaws, Miss Baek is a movie you find yourself caring about before all is said and done.

Harrowing at times. But beautiful at others. Very decent K Drama about abuse, neglect, maternity and companionship.

There are a few missteps, especially in the third act but overall it's a worthwhile watch.
