I really hate beating up on kids' movies, but this was bad. I just don't understand who this was for or how it got made. $1.4M dollars was spent to make this. The stink of made-for-television/straight-to-video is all over this. The acting isn't too bad, but every other part of this just looks cheap. The story is weak. Like, I just don't get it. Okay, first, the movie is set in New Zealand. An American boy travels there to visit his grandfather, Vernon. Vernon "dies," and is resurrected by music. Look, if this would have had a great story, I'd be onboard, but it doesn't. Maybe someone just wanted to shove Al Lewis into a Grandpa Munster type role. Truly terrible. Nothing funny, nothing heartfelt.
