Super sleazy and cheesy Holiday horror flick. I always used to think this movie was just cheap, tasteless thrills, but watching it now, it was quite a fun, ridiculous slasher. It's too bad it couldn't continue a trend of even more over-the-top sequels. But I guess the controversy kind of doomed it.

A disturbed young man dresses as Santa and goes on a killing spree. It's another one of those films that I've known all my life but have now only seen it for the first time. I've seen the second installment first and I'm surprised that the content is mostly reused footage from this film. I really enjoyed this one. It feels sleazy, cheap, and has low budget charm in it. The kills are great, the score is killer, the bad acting made the experience more fun. What makes it very interesting to me is the killer. The film spends a surprisingly large amount of time on the killer’s backstory and his trauma from the past is constantly assaulted in different ways. There's no better way to get into the festive spirit by watching something depraved like this. :santa:

Features more backstory for Billy than expected. Entertaining kills and accidental deaths. Its worst aspect was the criminal underuse of Linnea Quiqley.

Based on the reputation that "Silent Night, Deadly Night" has, I wasn't surprised that the movie primarily focuses on rather tasteless shocks. There are quite a few exaggerated depictions of senseless violence (especially against women), including attempted rape. Accordingly, there is also a lot of nudity, with the female actors being degraded to objects. What I would give the movie credit for, however, is that it is sometimes told with a bit of a wink, so that there are also a few laughs. Leading actor Robert Brian Wilson does a solid job despite his lack of acting experience, although none of the actors are really good. Ultimately, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" may not be a well-staged movie, but it is a fun slasher in parts. There are definitely much worse films in this genre.

A nice touch to have the film spend some time following the killers past but otherwise a pretty standard entry in the slasher genre.

This movie was so bad. I watched it on Shudder.

Billy is traumatised by the murder of his parents by a criminal dressed as Santa, that now, living at a convent with his brother, he can't stand Christmas and lashes out. After his hot-boy-glow-up moment, he begins working at a toy store with a warehouse but the lack of a Santa results in the manager asking Billy to sub in. Frozen by his trauma, Billy can barely stand to be in the suit when he suddenly witnesses his chrush, Pamela, being assaulted by her boyfriend at work. He flips and starts indiscriminately killing people.

The film's quality is so weird and inconsistent. Some scenes look like they were remastered for a digital release, then others remain so grainy and blurry. It was almost comical how often the quality changed throughout the film. The acting is pretty bad, but the gore is decent. I probably would say to don't bother with this one unless you're looking for Christmas themed horror.

To think this was pulled from theaters. Due to there being a killer Santa. Not because of all the scenes of women getting their shirts ripped off. To be raped.
The angry moms who had the movie banned. Might have thought Santa was the actual killer. It’s some nut though who watched his parents killed. By a guy dressed like Santa. So it traumatized him.
He now kills people while yelling naughty. Even the nice people who gave him a job. As well as a girl he saved from being raped. What did she do wrong ? lol.
The movie is good for a laugh, if you like nudity and some decent kills. I am not sure if that is actually me recommending it though.
