This movie just screams 90s. And it rocks
A comic book film that while cheesy and sometimes corny gives a worthwhile and fun experience. Its a film that shows the beauty of practical effects, one liners and good music. Its a film that has been diminished by critics as a poorly made and not interesting enough film. But critics are looking at this film the wrong way. The easiest way to enjoy this film is to just appreciate what it is; A classic film for kids and adults who love TMNT.
this movie didnt age well at all!
I actually think that for a comic book movie from the 90s, it aged like wine. It is probably the best TMNT movie to this day and I actually would place it in the top 5 comic book movies of the 90s.
Felt a little bit more like Ninja Turtles than the reboot at least. Sure there’s plenty of corniness but that should be expected.
Love this movie! the 90's rocked!!

There isn't many things that bring as much joy as the opening sewer sequence of this movie. The music, the panning through the sewers, the turtle banter, the shadows of the turtles and then finally the title screen with the turtles jumping into frame for the big reveal. The costumes are perfect and I could eat my weight in that pizza, perfect movie.
Sorry!!! Too much awesomeness and nostalgia attached to this one to make any kind of sense, so...
COWABUNGA!!!!
This is a really weird one to analyze. Mostly inspired by the darker, moodier tone of Eastman & Laird’s original comic books, the turtles’ feature film debut also injects many of the sillier, mainstream-friendly elements of the Saturday morning cartoon show. The two extremes don’t exactly meet in the middle, giving us strange juxtapositions like Michaelangelo cracking wise in a big fight scene while Raphael lies, bloodied and unconscious, a few feet away. Written for an audience that won’t ask many questions, it plays fast and loose with its plot points, like so many other spectacle-driven films of its era. Nothing holds up to scrutiny, even if we’re willing to give a pass to the five-foot reptiles’ well-traveled origin story.
Seeing this in the theater, eleven-year-old me was disappointed by the sluggish second act, unnecessary romantic subplots and shadowy textures. Watching it as an adult, with twin eleven-year-olds of my own, I constantly rolled my eyes at the terrible jokes and smoke-and-mirrors fight scenes. A conservative estimate would put my groan average at twice per scene. It gets points for the surprisingly well-aged creature effects (well done, Jim Henson) and for trying to stay close to the spirit of the source material, but it’s awfully tough to look past the weak production values, cheesy action cut-aways and ham-tastic dialogue. My goodness, there’s a lot of bad dialogue.
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Truly incoherent and downright surreal, as well as inconsistent. I have no idea who the target audience was.
This was a pretty good movie! Though it hasn't aged well at all, it's still a fun movie if you're huge fan of the Half-Shell Heroes!
A good movie that would have been better with some digital remastering. For more, see my review:

Only real reason to watch is for pure nostalgia
