BEWARE OF THE DRILL PENIS

My hot take is that the drill penis is actually rather erotic.

So, this where I learned that psychedelic cyberpunk experimental film is not for me. Despite two excellent horror sequences (the subway chase scene and the initial scene where the woman tries to comfort the man come to mind) and very sharp stop motion animation, the lack of a clear narrative really pulled this one down for me. The meaningless gore and moralizing anti-sexuality were incredibly off-putting to me, even as a fan, albeit a casual one, of horror and exploitation films. I might be convinced to watch the other films in the series, but this one was, at times, torturous.

Unique metallic body horror.

I read some of the reviews beforehand, all praising it, saying it is something else. And boy it was something else. It must be one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. Those metallic sounds, those flashes of metal, a metal drill, the stopmotion, A TANK, that soundtrack. This is something that can only be made in Japan.

Shinya Tsukamoto's Tetsuo: The Iron Man is something like I've never seen before. I can try and describe what I saw, but I just can't. I even read the wikipedia page after to see if I understood the plot. And for most part I did?

The 67 minutes flew by but to be honest, I still don't know what I saw. This film just left me in a confused state.
