That Kind of Summer 2022

Like inviting Jeffrey Dahmer for dinner and he only wants to talk about recipes.

This story of three young women on a sort of retreat to address their issues with sex addiction comes off as remarkably unremarkable. In what feels like an effort to be clinical, the director succeeds only in being tepid.

The long takes, the isolation (there is rarely more than one person in any given shot, especially in the first two acts [yes, I realize this was meant to highlight how the characters are feeling closer to those around them as the story progresses; I just would've preferred to have this in the acting and the dialog]), the long, whispered monologs, the long silences...

It was all so dry I couldn't get into it.
