Monotonous and heavy-handed, The Christmas Dance is a mediocre holiday drama. The story follows a magazine columnist who’s low on Christmas spirit, but when her brother is in an accident and she’s forced to return to her hometown and reconnects with her old friends and family she starts to feel the Christmas spirit coming back. Kristen Vaganos gives a solid performance, but her co-stars ham it up: although, to be fair, they’re working with some pretty schlocky dialog. And the plot isn’t very subtle, yet its straightforwardness is kind of refreshing. The Christmas Dance has some problems but there’s something about its earnestness that comes through and is a bit heartening.
