The Descent: Part 2 2009

The Descent: part 2 is a shining example of an unnecessary sequel to a truly stand out film.

I recently rewatched the original since it was released and I saw it at the cinema. I also saw this sequel at the cinema and vaguely recall being disappointed.

On rewatch, I can elaborate...

Big problem areas:
- the creatures behaviour has changed. In an immediate time lined sequel, this is unforgivable.
- the plot is okay. It is well structured to create the scenario of returning to the caves but it is incredibly flawed around character behaviours. For instance the deaths at the end, and the 'twist' in the closing seconds.

I didn't feel the need to turn this off but I was overall underwhelmed.

5/10

Love the first, outstanding film, but unfortunately this just doesn’t live up to the original; which is true to so many sequels.

Despite its faults, it’s still watchable and great performances from the original characters.

First things first I liked the original movie so seeing this one pop up on Netflix was a surprise to the point I decided to watch it and what do I get for watching it dissapiontmemt.

Pros:
1. Makes references to the first film and keeps with the continuity not going off on a different story
2. Has the same feel as the first film all the gritty and derp damp dark of the caves under ground.

Cons:
1. Kills off two of the returning characters right at the end for no reason but a stupid self sacrifice scene only for bs to happen with a old man throwing the last survivor back to the beasts also a scene where one nan gives jus life to save the women he loves only hit her to die straight away.
2. Complete gore fest period if you like this fine but the first movie had suspense and tension thus movie is literally gross out factor followed by gore factor

An okay watch, not as good as the first part. There was more violence and gore in this one, and a lot of dumb decisions made by everyone but Sarah. But it was fun once, and kept the claustrophobic atmosphere of the original really well, and the very good jumpscares. Sound mixing could've been better; the quiet parts were too quiet and the loud parts were too loud. Also the crawlers made a lot of noises that were just straight unaltered hyena sounds, in this one and the first part. At least mix them with something else, damn!

I don't understand why Sarah freaked and kicked the one sheriff and pushed the other one to run off into the caves, though. Like, the freakout is understandable, but why attack people and run away? The ending was stupid too, trying to introduce a conspiracy sort of element for no reason.

While it's a decent movie, it doesn't really do anything new when you compare it to the first movie. There was a hint of a bigger sort of conspiracy thing at the end, but it felt tacked on, wasn't really felt at any other point in the movie, and we didn't get a third movie so it was more or less pointless.

What a disappointment. Don't watch if you don't want the first one ruined for yourself.

It's not the worst movie, but doesn't live up to the original by any means. The biggest problem is that the whole premise is a plot device and the characters also make completely unfounded decisions just to move the plot forward.

Pros: returning characters, cohesive acting, and a greater scenario. I think this sequel had a quite more budget than first one. I don't think creatures had a different behavior in this movie.
Cons: the finale. I can totally forgot the "twist" at the end and would be a good movie. Instead, with the actual one, is just a 2 o 3/10. Sadly bad executed.

It's as nerve pulling as part one. I like it a lot.

Bloodier than the first, with more light. Link to the first, although if you see the first you know it can't be. Worse than the first. I ignore the last minute of the movie, it doesn't end like this
