This is a solid nice movie, I think it would've been even a great movie if the casting for Matthew was better. I've spent half the time figuring out how was it possible that Sandler is Stillers older brother, when they look the same age (and in real life Siller is a year older).
As for the rest of the cast, Elizabeth Marvel was just fantastic, she played the role perfectly.
A well-rounded dramedy. One of Baumbach's better works.

I like the father son relationships in this. Great performances from Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Dustin Hoffman. Definitely worth a watch to see Adam Sandler do some acting that isn't comedy.
I Loved this movie, it was like "a little american novel", something like "Franzen meet Woody Allen"
Good performance from all cast, good chemistry, overall good film...
The acting isn’t bad at all. It’s just extremelyyyy boringggg. I was falling asleep, nothing interesting happens
I did the other way around. I should have seen Marriage Story after this. Both are Noah Baumbach's works and have his style, but the Marriage Story is better. They both are worth recommending if you like good character drama where people talk a lot.
Harold is an artist who is no longer at the peak of his career. He has two sons and a daughter. Danny, the eldest one, has artistic inclinations, and is a good musician, but growing up, drugs got the best of him and now he is no longer pursuing the art. Matthew is the second son who is more financially successful and has a stable career. Jean is the third wheel in the narrative but she also has a stable job. There are other characters but these are the most important ones.
This is a very character-driven story. The proud, retired father can not easily digest that his best days are past him. Matthew has a more pragmatic or practical view of how his parents should handle their finances. Danny wants to be closer to his father.
With these dysfunctional adults together, the story just flows. At the outset, there is no goal that the movie is building towards, but that makes it a more natural and slice-of-life kind of experience.
There is a scene where Danny and his daughter Eliza play a piece on the piano. Moments like this can not exist in films purely focussing on the destinations.
There is not a lot happening on a big scale, but for the Meyerowitzs, the changes coming their way are life-changing. This is handled beautifully and at the end of the experience, you are happy to have seen a good comedy drama. This reminded me of the older Basu Chatterjee films. This film has more aggression and less romance than say, Baton Baton Mein, but feels like the slice-of-life nature thread still runs in both of them.
Recommended for a casual watch.
The way I see it, "The Meyerowitz Stories" tells the story of an unorthodox, almost niche, family from the viewpoint of its members, with their daily upside downs in a straightforward emotionless narrative way.
Don't get me wrong, now, there's plenty of emotion in there. Anger, hate, sorrow, love, joy, despair, contempt, hope, all present and accounted for, but they just don't fit well on-screen. However, despite the effort of a well-renowned and talented cast, perhaps a novel would fit this dramedy better because, personally, it was quite a long movie that dragged itself to the end, providing only some very occasional and brief comical relieving, mostly thanks to Danny's (Adam Sandler) character rage outbursts.
Boring. Turned it off halfway in.
A brilliant comedy. Hoffman is great!
Starting to catch up on all of Noah Baumbach's movies. A great look at family dynamics.
wkurzający jak filmy Woody Allena
While I can appreciate the individual performances I struggled to connect with their characters. Without that you just have a family drama and some wildly different characters converging over time which is not exactly unique.

Often touching and hilarious family saga. The cast are uniformly terrific, but it is a particular joy to see Sandler and Stiller acting together. The former gives some of his best work in a while, too. Would have liked to have spent more time with these people, and a tv show would have been perfect. As it stands, this is well worth seeing, and may reward repeat viewings.
