The Miracle on 34th Street 1955

A TV version of the Christmas classic, Miracle on 34th Street has a bit of the film’s magic. The story is the same; Kris Kringle going to work for Macy’s department store and starting a goodwill campaign, but ending up being put on trial for lunacy. In fact, the script is practically the same, almost word for word, but stripped to the bone with only a few minor changes. And the pacing is speed up, with the actors rushing the dialog. However the script still works (even paired down). And while the actors aren’t as good as those in the original, they give solid performances. The 20th Century Fox Hour’s television adaptation of Miracle on 34th Street is inferior to the film (how could it not be), but it’s still entertaining and has the Christmas spirit.
