The Purge: Election Year 2016

The Purge: Election Year is the second best of the series with the best premise of all three. This film, like the previous, took to the streets, but it also introduced (while only slight) a wider variety of crimes. Above the rest, it has a full-circle concept and a ton of action.

The thing I didn't like came down to the fact that it merely FELT like the same movie as its predecessor, that is... Not believable. The idea is, but the execution is a little over the top and feels too much like an amateur production. It's still a fun movie to think about, and I'm glad the trilogy has come to an end

I like the action, and way way more intense than the first one. As good as 'Anarchy', plus Elizabeth Mitchell!

Poor movie, one-sided, weak characters

Wait! What? Wtf did I just watch?
I don't know where to start. Ok... First and also biggest problem of the movie is Senator Roan. Her family was slaughtered so she knows the meaning of fear very well. Now, her life is in danger again but her damn gesture doesn't change during the whole movie. Do producers of the movie try to show us a tough senator? If so, they must have forgotten she is a human first... Then she is a senator. I mean she can be killed but she doesn't scare! Roan's gesture changes only when she hears that her competitor will be killed. She doesn't care her life more than the election. You can say it is not a big deal but I've been stuck in that annoying situation during the whole movie. The second problem is that Leo becomes Rambo. Pleaszzze! He was shot, he took the bullet off from his body himself and a car accident happened but he beat a mercenary who was steady as a rock.
I'm just disappointed. Really like the second movie but this one is a disaster.

My thoughts about this movie is basically the same as the previous Purge movies; The writers are missing out on making this a hardcore horror series in order to make these movies more appealing to a wider audience.
What you get is a great premise that doesn't follow through in making itself truly disturbing.

Third time's a charm.

Going into The Purge I expected a silly horror movie, and so far the series has surprised.

Was pleasantly surprised in The Purge, and again in The Purge Anarchy. Election Year takes a step back to what I expected from the series going into it.

The acting felt a bit flat from some of the main characters, some of the side characters felt like a step back compared to the previous movies.

The storyline was fine, nothing incredible. Felt like it could have been a lot more, but ended up being a bit shallow.

Hoping for a rebound with The First Purge, but Election Year is not too out of place for the series.

Can somebody care to explain to me how it was the 6th annual Purge in the 2nd movie, and now it is supposed to be 2 years later, so 2025, and it tells that the Purge has been happening for at least 18 years? What a fucking mess

Rick and Morty's "Look Who's Purging Now" is the best version of The Purge we've had.

The Purge series has one of the greatest premises in a long time, but too bad it was in the hands of dipshit film makers who have no idea how to execute it properly. Three movies in and I'm still not into these movies.

Frank Grillo and Elizabeth Mitchell are both strong leads and the only thing I can think of that I liked in this movie. The acting from everyone else was so awful and way too over the top that after awhile it came off laughable.

I simply didn't like it, but 1&2 are great!

In my opinion, the worst of all three Purge movies. The action was nice, though.

Not a good movie by a landslide. Pretty forgettable. Would have been better if they spent some time building the characters.

The most entertaining film from the trilogy. It's marginally better than Anarchy and still uses the same formula but this time they decide to finally take a step forward in the narrative and be more creative on the visuals. It's also scary and terrifying despite having more comedy than the first two films combined. As a horror action film, it delivers on tension and violence and really expands on that horrifying idea. The story, the pacing and the characters are done a lot better. However it beats you over the head with its political message. It felt forced and unnatural. I wish it stops taking itself so serious and embraces the silliness. That neon blue mask and the candy girl purge sequence are really cool!

The third (and perhaps final) chapter in the series, The Purge: Election Year continues to explore the sociopolitical ties to violence. When the political establishment is threatened by presidential candidate Sen. Charlie Roan’s promise to abolish The Purge, they rescind the protection clause for politicians and hire an elite group of mercenaries to assassinate Roan on Purge Night. Elizabeth Mitchell and Frank Grillo lead the cast and give especially good performances. And the action sequences are intense and exciting. But the writing is weak, as the politics are incredibly heavy handed and slow down the momentum of the film. Also, the characters are rather thin and don’t have a lot of depth to them. However, there’s some interesting worldbuilding that delves into the anti-Purge movement. Yet while it has some issues, The Purge: Election Year offers a thought-provoking look at the culture of violence and is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy.

I like the action the movie has, but in my opinion the second one was the best

The story is bit meh.. but instead: action action action... and action! I liked it! Don't think too much!

In a few days time America will be having its own election. Should Trump win you can expect Purge Night as standard every year. Politics over and on to the film... it was very good, chilling in concept with welcome bursts of action to levy the horrors.

didnt rate it compared to the others im afraid :( sorry

Good movie, i like it better than the rest purge ones. Really nice action

It was okay, but I feel like there could've been more. I like those horrors that will make me feel fear, this doesn't. but it's a pretty good watch "action-wise".

This was pretty good. Some great action scenes. Almost all the characters and their dialog are laugh out loud funny. Just do broad and zero subtext. But that is NOT why were watchin' the Purge am I right or am I right. Great action, great jumps, great reveal on who one of the baddies is....best purge right here.

This was pretty crazy. Maybe even the best one.
