White Bird in a Blizzard 2014

Slow moving drama, meanders at times but its helped by a good cast. The title is better than the film.

Well ... strange story, but I found it at least watchable. Big factor being Shailene Woodley, she is growing on me.

The pace is so slow and all the time I was wondering if this is supposed to be a drama about a teenage girl and her issues growing up or a thriller about the dissapearance of a mother. In the end it´s neither.
I would catogerize this as the type of movie you´d watch because of a certain actress/actor. That was my motivation.

Absolutely not. Absolutely not. Absolutely not.

It was hard for me to watch because I don't like Shailene Woodley.

It's more of a movie with a secret than anything else. And the secret didn't have any clue to it until the reveal at the end.

I watched it because I liked other movies by the director.

White Bird in a Blizzard is a period piece, set in the late '80s. We follow seventeen-year-old Kat, who lives at home with her depressed mother, Eve, and passive father, before she leaves for college.
As Eve's behavior begins to grow more erratic, she vanishes without a trace. This is when the movie becomes a mystery, while still focusing on Kat's internal struggle to process, and reconcile the loss.
The movie is emotional, and has a satisfying ending, which I will not spoil here.
I am a huge fan of Gregg Araki's films; he is able to keep his style intact regardless of the subject matter, which ranges from the chaos of his early movies (e.g., Nowhere, The Doom Generation) to his heavy dramas (e.g., Mysterious Skin, WBIAB).
WBIAB may be Gregg's most mainstream movie. There is enough here for anyone to enjoy, wether you're big into indie films, a casual movie goer or a major Araki fan.

Some movies get worse the next day, some get better. This one is the latter. I would give it a 7.5 if I could.

Acting, screenplay, and soundtrack all great.

Some have said they didn't do so hot recreating the eighties. The filmmakers did fine in my opinion. I was there and the 80's didn't always look like 80's... Plenty of folks had remnants of 50s, 60's and 70's design in their house. That's actually more realistic. The only thing I thought looked out of place was the stainless steel double door refrigerator. Those were not common.

Shailene and Eva are superlative, slow and obvious end.

This movie is watchable but predictable.
The only thing that made me enjoy it was the amazing soundtrack.

Unwatchably bad. It is trite, contrived, and strikes one false note after another... avoid this crap.
