The series follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation "Fringe Division" team based in Boston. The team uses unorthodox "fringe" science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained, often ghastly occurrences, some of which are related to mysteries surrounding a parallel universe.
psylunne is on the money.Season 1 fleshed out characters, set up backgrounds and interactions but showed no direction and was a pale shadow at times of X-Files monster of the week episodes.Once we had those characters Season 2 and 3 brought home the bacon and gave us an arc that became all encompassing that isn't anywhere near as up it's own ass with self importance as the X-Files, as great as it was.
John Noble as Walter Bishop is superb and I can't think of anyone else who could have brought him to life.Does it feel as unhinged as Lost in terms of finding direction? No.Do I feel it was planned from the beginning?Just like Lost, no.They gave us characters to get to know and then dropped in the arc.If you think about it, it's a great idea and I think for high concept shows like this I think we will see more of it.Find an engaging way to introduce characters and the universe and use that period to really hook people, even midseason, and then towards the end show them the breadcrumb trail.
This is one of the best science fiction shows on tv currently. The X-Files had a much darker setting than Fringe. I really like the eccentric Doctor Walter Bishop, that he always comes up with the most crazy ideas while he is dead serious about them.
I really hope that FOX knows that they have a killer show in house and they keep them on the air for many years to come.
Great show, although does take some getting into it at first but you really have to give it a chance. After a few eps I was hooked!
Funnily enough though each season does start off slow taking a bit to get into the new story ark, but once it does get into it, always becomes gripping.
This is an incredible show. You don't get science-fiction like this anymore on television. The only thing I can say bad about it is that it's on Fox and will likely get cancelled before it ends. If you liked The X-Files, watch this!
