Special 6 At Full Throttle

November 20, 2000 12:00 am
In the petrolhead world of customised cars, Jeremy Clarkson is about to learn that it’s always possible to make the best even better! Swoon as Vicki Butler-Henderson takes her Ford Capri head to head against Jeremy’s Mercedes and wins! Marvel as Jeremy modifies a boring road-going Rover into a monster! Jeremy Clarkson had always thought customised cars are stupid. But in this, his latest DVD extravaganza, he ends up with egg on his face, admitting the unadmittable. Gasp as you watch Vicki Butler-Henderson in a Ford Capri demolish Jeremy in a £250,000 Brabus Mercedes in a head to head race. Recoil in horror as you see an 800 brake horsepower Nissan Skyline take a TVR Cerbera to the cleaners. Sit back and watch ten of the fastest, tuned Escort Cosworths race each other in an amazing one-off drag race to discover the quickest. Jeremy even tries his hand at the power game, turning a statesmanlike Rover into a road-burning monster. But not before he destroys what he calls the world`s worst customised car. This is the fastest Clarkson DVD yet, an all out explosion of engines at the max

Special 7 Top 100 Cars

November 19, 2001 12:00 am
You may imagine, because I drew it up, that it’ll be full to overflowing with Italian exotica and Japanese turbo-charged play stations. And you’d be right, it is. But there are surprises too, like the Ford Transit Van and the Peugeot 504 Estate. I’ve even let the odd Porsche squeak through the net. And then, before I get to the top ten, I set out to find the worst, which is then mashed into an Austin Allegro and destroyed in the biggest game of bar skittles ever staged. So yes, there are fireballs, screaming tyres, power slides, power chords, jack hammer engine noises and a countdown: a countdown to number one. The wheeled Jimi Hendrix. The automotive Pele. The best car ever made ? You’re in for a shock.

Special 9 Shoot-Out

November 10, 2003 12:00 am
“2003 has been the best year for new cars ever. In this new DVD I put the best of the best to the test. But Im not interested in reliability, fuel consumption or even cup holders. This is all about finding the car of the year that put the biggest smile on my face… So I put the Bentley Continental GT head to head against the Rolls Royce Phantom in a heavy metal drag race. I pitch the Mitsubishi Evo VIII against its old enemy the Subaru Imprezza Sti. I choose the best road car you can use on a track and the contenders are the Lotus Elise, the Vauxhall VX220 Turbo and the new TVR350C. There’s a supercar showdown between the Pagani Zonda and the Koenigsegg. And I throw down the gauntlet to the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Aston Martin DB7 GT, the Porsche GT3 and many, many more. I also found time to put a new spin on the art of caravan towing - flipping one on to its roof and hooking it up to a super fast Overfinch Range Rover. In fact I had so much fun Im still smiling now, I’m sure you will too.

Special 10 Hot Metal

November 8, 2004 12:00 am
Everywhere you look, we’re slowing down. With concorde in a museum, air travel is slower. And even the fighter jets of today would be smashed by the interceptors from the sixties.

But what about cars? I decided to find out whether today’s cream can blast the monsters from the power crazed eighties. Are the new breed quicker in a straight line. Do they corner faster. Which are better looking and which can make the best noises.

That means the 200 mile per hour Jaguar XJ220 taking on a Pagani Zonda. It means pitting a Mclaren Mercedes SLR against a Porsche Carrerra GT – the first time ever these cares have been brought together. And it means lining up the new Fort GT with the car that spawned it – the old GT40. It means epic head to head drag races.

Naturally, the new Aston Martin DB9 is here too, taking on the old warhorses, the V8 Vantages. And the Evo 8? How much faster is it than the Evo 1. The answer might surprise you.

Oh and of course, I just had to riddle a Nissan with machine gun fire as I take up the new and dangerous sport of “Clay Car shooting”.

Why? Why not!

Special 11 Heaven and Hell

November 7, 2005 12:00 am
Jeremy Clarkson passes judgement on the cars that made 2005. It’s car judgement day in Heaven and Hell - the saints of 2005 and the biggest sinners of all time And so, this is the big one. I trawl the whole of cardom to bring you seven great cars and truffle the undergrowth looking for seven automotive disasters. The good ones - the Ferraris, the Porches and the Aston Martins are driven to within an inch of their lives on the track. Some are even handed over to the Stig who makes a guest appearance. The bad ones are killed. Sawn in half. Hung, drawn and quartered. They’re hammered and blown to pieces with dynamite and their skeletons left in the open to rot. I even find time for a game of car jousting.

It’s Heaven then, and Hell !!!

Special 12 The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

November 6, 2006 12:00 am
Clarkson goes West! In an attempt to find the ultimate American car (or even a half-decent one), US models are pitched against their European counterparts. The trademarks of opinions galore and dry humour are as evident in The Good, The Bad, The Ugly as in any other Clarkson spectacle.

Special 14 Thriller

November 1, 2008 12:00 am
Welcome to my all new DVD Thriller, which, as the name suggests, is all about thrills at the wheel. Aston Martin’s gentleman thug, the DBS, takes on its rivals from Italy. The lightweight Lamborghini Superleggera battles it out on the track with Ferrari’s 430 Scuderia and my test of the best takes me to the breathtaking roads of the Swiss Alps, the no limits German autobahn – and, er, Norfolk.

I swap racing overalls for camouflage uniform to join the Marines at the controls of an all-terrain Viking before using its machine gun to shoot a Lexus…in the face. The 200 mph Porsche 911 turbo struts its stuff in its natural habitat – the autobahn. And I get a lungful of turbocharged fresh air from the 240 mph Pagani Zonda Roadster F. Then there’s the rocket science – Clarkson-style – as I fit a Porsche 944 with rocket launchers (they only look like drainpipes wrapped in silver foil). I also blast fireworks at a speed camera and have a bit of an accident with a double-decker bus. I drop a 7-tonne diesel engine on to a Highways Agency traffic-womble car – doing my bit to tidy the roads…while creating the world’s fastest diesel. Plus I’m joined by tame racing driver The Stig who gets a big surprise – as do you when you see what he likes to do with sheep. And everything else explodes.

Special 15 Duel

November 2, 2009 12:00 am
It’s all about challenges and some big questions. Which car makes the most smoke while going sideways – a Lamborghini Murcielago SuperVeloce or a Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S? What is best at drifting? – the Jaguar XKR, the Lotus Evora, Audi’s R8 V10 or BMW’s M3? To find out, I globe-trot from sun-drenched Spain to Silverstone via Oxfordshire…and Swindon. There is serious science too.

Can The Stig drift a car while wearing wellies? Can I corner in flippers? Can Formula One ace Anthony Davidson slide a car – in ice skates? Who is the best at off road driving? – Newswoman Kate Silverton, rugby’s Matt Dawson, singer Ronan Keating – or me? Which is fastest – a car or a man? Find out as the Aston Martin v12 Vantage sprints against flying rugby winger Tom Varndell in a 100 metre drag race. And at last, The Stig goes head to helmet against The Tiff. The white-suited racing driver and I join forces against Vicki Butler-Henderson and Tiff Needell. There’s carnage in an auto-test and I push the 190mph Aston Martin DBS Volante to the limit against Vicki in a £150,000 Ferrari California. I also pick a Ford Focus RS for a road race against his Stigness in a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. Who will win?

There’s more. What will hit the ground first from 150 feet up…a penny or a Ford Scorpio? Can the Stig ride a bicycle? And can a man with a rubbish car get it home using no fuel at all…. just a catapult. Meanwhile, there’s a terrible accident with a Morris Marina and a piano and everything else explodes…including Ronan Keating.

Special 16 The Italian Job

November 15, 2010 12:00 am
It’s The Italian Job so obviously, I head to Kent in England for the race of a lifetime. But first I have to get ready. So, it’s the Fiorano test track in Italy where I spend a while not getting ready at all. I try the gym but it’s all rubbish so instead, I decide to compare Ferrari’s 458 Italia and the limited edition 599 GTO. On paper, that doesn’t seem fair. But in reality….

Next stop is the infamous Imola race circuit. The Stig joins me to get the most out of the Porsche GT3 and its stripped out cousin the GT3 RS. Also present are the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and the jaw-dropping Mercedes SLS AMG with its gullwing doors.

My face gets a workout too, thanks to an Ariel Atom. With a V8 engine. Then, for some reason, The Stig does something terrible to the face of Rubens Barrichello. My final Italian shake-down comes from the £1.3 million, Nurburgring lap record holder – the Zonda R with its 750 horsepower V12 and slick tyres.

Finally, I’m ready. So it’s back to England for my first ever Classic Touring Car Race...I don’t know the car, I don’t know the circuit and I’m up against 20 experienced rivals...What could possibly go wrong?

Special 17 The Italian Job (DVD extras)

The making of The Italian Job is revealed. Yes, we lift the lid – and blow the doors off – all the behind the scenes action. A team of fifteen on the road for ten days . Blistering Italian sun, mechanical problems and technical headaches plus tricks of the trade...It’s all here is an exclusive tell-all video diary.

Then of course, everything else explodes. Over the past 15 years I’ve destroyed some hateful cars in some ingenious ways. Now, for the first time ever, the best five of those destructions – as voted for by you – are brought together on this second disc.

Special 19 Greatest Raid of All Time

June 13, 2007 12:00 am
Jeremy Clarkson tells the story of what has been called 'the original Mission Impossible' – the audacious commando raid on the German occupied dry dock at St Nazaire in France on March 28th 1942. Operation Chariot, as the raid was codenamed, had a simple aim: to destroy the dry dock and thus deny the German battleship Tirpitz a safe haven on the Atlantic coast of France.
