Whedon was eventually going to use Kate to partner with Holtz! Instead we got insufferable Justine, as the actress playing Kate joined Law &Order. I'm kind of indifferent to the character but she would have been powerful as an antagonist with Holtz; so much better than Justine. (Cuz plot arc-history...)
