Don't feel the chemistry just yet; there's some pacing issues; and there's some backstory missing between some characters, but it's a good start. Hope to see more of Eloise! She's so charming.
Fair start, feels a bit rushed though and I don’t feel the chemistry between Daphne and Simon. Hopefully now that the characters and baseline plot are introduced, the pacing would be better in upcoming episodes.
I love the opening credits, they are beautifully done. Eloise is my favorite character in the first episode, and the actor playing Benedict has a very beautiful smile.
SPOILERS ahead for non-book readers:
- I am not a big fan of Daphne’s character in the first book so I welcome any changes done in the show
- It seems we are starting with Anthony as a very unlikeable character (of course, everything will change once we get his story)
- Simon, Daphne, and Nigel’s scene was also modified but I am glad they kept the punch although the extended scene in the book is much more enjoyable especially the back and forth conversation between Daphne and Simon
More than a little familiar. If this is true to the bools, I would say Cecily von Ziegesar might dislike it. "...XOXO Lady Whistledowne."
Could have sworn the episode would sign off on XOXO, Gossip Girl
God i love enemies to lover troupe so much!!
Okay, I've finally caved in: time to catch up with the series!
For a first episode, it is very good. I appreciated how lighthearted and funny the tone was overall.
I also liked how the main plot involving Daphne and the Duke is already in motion without having to wait too much for it. The ending of the episode is sure to pique someone's interest (it sure happened to me!). In addition, I love the Regency era as a setting and the very Gossip Girl tone of it all (c'mon Lady Whistledown is one second away from saying XOXO! On that note, let me say that having Julie Andrews as a narrator was an excellent choice!)
For what concerns the characters, I couldn't stand Daphne at first, but her interactions with the Duke, her pushing back at Anthony and the punch at that bumbling fool of a lord make her more sympathetic. The Duke is surely the most charming of the couple, and his sarcastic comments to Daphne are perfect. Their chemistry is evident, but I'm sure it will improve even more by the end of the season.
As for the supporting cast, Anthony is an interesting character and essential for the plot it seems, even if he gives too much asshole vibes towards the end of the episode (yeah I get it, sacrificing love for your family isn't fun, but I hope he doesn't stay that way for the rest of the season!) My favorite character so far is Penelope. She has many interesting background and main
scenes which flesh out her personality and I can't wait to find out more about her. Finally, I already know her mother, Lady Featherington, will be that type of character that one just loves to hate.
I was hesitant to watch this when it released yet here i am 2 and a bit years later totally getting into it
Such a promising first episode, I loved it v much, it definitely makes you want to continue the series.
enemies to lovers? and they decide to pretend they're a couple? I AM IN
Apart from the disgusting and gratuitious sex scenes which I obviously skipped (I must add a statement about this kind of content on my profile so that I do not have to repeat it every time), the episode turned out to be quite entertaining and relaxing. I can guess why people enjoy watching these colourfully clad characters in the sad and stressful time of the pandemic. It seems to me that the show is a parody and an ironic take on the Regency Romance genre, which I found quite funny.
Well this is fun but also very different from the book (also less polished in a way?)

Just started watching and I’m getting early 19th century Gossip Girl vibes...
