This is, and always will be, the greatest half hour of television ever produced.
This is the best episode of season one. God, I laughed so hard :D
This episode is gooooooooooood as coscu would say
"To be blunt, Jeff and Britta is no Ross and Rachel. Your sexual tension and lack of chemistry are putting us all on edge, which is why ironically, and hear this on every level, you're keeping us from being friends." — Abed
Troy: "What's the prize?"
Dean: "It was a Blu-ray DVD player, but it was stolen. So now it's TBD."
Troy: "I want TBD. Is that new?"
Jeff: "Leonard, I'm not playing."
Leonard: "Everyone's playing."Abed did a walljump!
"Come with me if you don't want paint on your clothes." — Abed"Jeff Winger." [Laughing] "You son of a bitch. I thought you were dead, man." — Troy
Abed: "So no one feels it? No one senses anything's different?"
Britta: "Nope."
Jeff: "Not at all."
Poor Abed, lol
8/10
[9.3/10] It’s funny; my first thought watching this episode was “how come director Justin Lin can make the action so clear in this one when it was so muddled in Star Trek Beyond? But it speaks to what was achieved here that the man who staged all of this action (and the men who staged all of the action in the sequel episode) went onto make billion dollar blockbusters. It’s really impressive how well Lin and company are able to take a network sitcom budget and turn into something this simultaneously silly, cool, and exciting.
Like the best of Community, “Modern Warfare” runs through a myriad of tropes in the action movie genre, while riffing on them and repurposing them at the same time. References to everything from The Warriors to Die Hard to Battle Royale are executed perfectly and integrated beautifully into the outsized world of Greendale.
There’s also some good character work in the show, as always. The will-they won’t-they stuff with Britta and Jeff got tiresome at points, but the show makes their tension turn closer to something real given their denial and eventual post-coital action movie banter afterwards. This show walks the line between parody and sincerity so well, mining the cultural conventions its spoofing for the nugget of truth within them. The fact that, after needling Britta about it, Jeff not only wins the game, but gives his prize to Shirley, is an unexpected-if-sitcom-inevitable sign of growth from him.
Overall, this is one Community’s most creative outings, which is truly saying something for this show. The pitch-perfect recreation of action movie moments, the wonderful integration of them into the universe of this crazy community college, and the use of them to further develop some of the show’s biggest characters make this a true stand-out for the series in its first season.
I was gonna go to sleep after the last episode but I'm watching this to get rid of the bad taste it left me with.
An incredibly fun episode. Really turned it around from the trash that was the previous one.
masterpiece of an episode. don’t know how they went from masterpiece shitter masterpiece but they did
Contemporary American Poultry and Modern Warfare appearing so close together at the end of season one would unfortunately set a much higher bar for fan's expectations than could realistically be met in later seasons. It's also why the show leaned so heavily on references to these kind of episodes during the "gas leak" year.
This isn't a complaint about these episodes, because I fucking loved them at the time and still love them now; they cemented my already firm belief that this was the most unique and hilarious sitcom of the 2009/2010 season.
one of the greatest episode in sitcom history
This is the best episode of the entire show. It’s genius.
Ok I love community now. That was one of the best episodes of any sitcom I’ve seen.
Best episode in all of Community and probably one of my all-time favorites from everything I watched
Excelent episode, The first Battle royale!
And so it begins. let the games begin
