Starts off great and is a joy to watch, but deteriorates quickly once new writers take over (the two-parters in particular) from Reginald Hill and is more of a chore to sit through. The once barbarous and humourous relationship between the two main characters goes from a respectful difference of opinions to downright petulance. There are no good, permanent female characters neither, despite some strong contenders along the way. The relationship between the Messer's Pascoe is another failing; the once loving respect and understanding they held for one another vanishes, practically overnight. Finding a love interest for Dalzeil is another weak point and is all too often written with all the charm of a overtly horny young pups "lipstick".
Really enjoy this show like many other UK detective shows. Why is it they can get the shows right over in the UK but we get such crap here in the u.s. I get so disappointed with the constant crap we get here.
