A very powerful episode.

As for the people complaining about the subplots; this is only episode three of a new series! If the plots moved too quickly, you would be complaining about that too, of course.

In my opinion, this is not Death in Paradise's strongest episode, even though it tried to tackle some really heavy topics. The way it was handled just felt very flat to me. We've also reached a point where the show is throwing several B-side plots at us at once, and all of them are just so fragmented it feels like we barely get to see them. Marlon and Naomi? Barely any progress. Selwyn and Andrena? We didn't get to see them getting closer after the whole fiasco of their first week together (that I am still bitter about because Selwyn did nothing wrong, and they treated him like a villain), so the emotional beats are not emotion-ing to me. And Neville and his blog? Not the most engaging side plot... Although my theory is that the person who liked/commented will turn out to be Florance, which would be how they reconnect, leading Neville to finally get a happily-ever-after since this season has so far sprinkled in quite a few Florance-related breadcrumbs.

Rather uneventful and boring episode with a lot of boring guest stars flown in from the UK while the islands offers all these motley locals. Don't get it.

The B-plots are not very exciting and seemingly lead to nowhere. I don't care about the story about the inspector's daughter. Naomi's and Marlon's story could be something but it's neither romantic nor raunchy. The DI's blog story is the worst. Sure there could be a story here. Like he becoming Instagram-famous and having malevolent haters that lead to an actual crime. But this way, it's just boring.
