The one person they needed to bring to the alternate universe just so happens to be the one person who doesn't live in the same place that their counterpart does. How convenient!
It's still so silly how inconsistent and malleable the changes between universes are, only existing to be convenient to the plot.
That aside, I think the overall arc of this storyline is great, with the two universes working together.
