I enjoyed the subtlety in the scene between Mr Hardcastle and Anne. His energy was so hostile at the start of the conversation, no doubt thinking of what he'd heard about her and Ann, but then slowly as the conversation went on he was reminded of who she truly is and how it doesn't matter who she's kissing. She's a good person who tried to do right by his boy. And by the end he's in awe and thanking her.
None of this needed exposition, the show knows those paying attention will get it and doesn't hold the viewer's hand. Solid stuff.

poor marian, but it feels like abbott is just marrying her for wealth.

it is predictable for someone in that time but lister is ironic for someone with her intelligence, experience and orientated it is very annoying to see. i feel no sympathy for her despite her journey but shes a privileged white woman with power and money, theres nothing really need to be sympathized here besides her as a woman and a woman lover in the 1800s.

the maid and servants or peasants here are far more interesting than her stories (besides probably the election's chaos) i wouldn't mind if they did an episode just focusing on the servants of shibden

Winter has arrived, and so it begins... with the political unrest comes the open persecution and further disharmony with the Walker-Listers. Will probably watch the next few episodes with eyes half covered.
Also, this episode title is as much a "joke" as that wedding announcement - yikes. The immediate troubles have been evaded yes, but no one has escaped... sadly there are dark days ahead.

Also, also... wtf Marian, I get it... biological clock and all that, still Abbott?!?! Naaaah, I take it back, she could stand to change a little.
