I find this season a slight stepdown from the first, since I feel the busy plot stifles the character side just a tad, unlike the previous one where there's a better balance. I do like that it's more ambitious though, and the finale is pretty great since the threat is more immediate, satisfying, and brings about more intimate character development/moments.

A fairly flat end to an underwhelming season. I know production was amidst the pandemic and Sophie Rundle's pregnancy but somehow the show has a completely different tone to season 1.
It's still an inspiration to see Anne's story but I'm just not as enamored with this one sadly.
Hopefully season 3 is back on form (renewal hasn't been announced yet but this is the BBC and England not a US network. It'll be back).

I wish they had written something better during the three year long hiatus. So much unnecessary discord between Anne and Ann that felt like it had no purpose, and so much screen time dedicated to plot points that felt like they had no purpose in the end. But no matter how disappointed I may be, I will always appreciate this show for the lesbian representation it has.
