I Told Sunset About You 2020

Teh and Oh-aew were best friends until a boyhood line of reasoning turned them into rivals. Years later as they're preparing for university admissions, both pursuing interests in the field of Communication Arts, the two meet in a Chinese language class. Their reunion awakens complicated and unstable feelings.

This was probably one of the most meaningful, beautiful, complicated stories of queer love I have seen in my BL journey thus far. This show is a masterpiece and needs to be consumed, viewed and treated with care, like a growing flower.

The cinematography is top tier. It is hands down some of the best cinematography in a BL series I have seen. Every shot is carefully crafted to create the most intimate and meaningful viewing experience. The use of light throughout the series to keep a consistent tone was meticulous, all using the beautiful nature scenery of Phuket Thailand in the process. Also, they use a lot of symbolism throughout the series, especially colour and flowers in the narrative telling of Teh’s confusion and desperation over his budding sexual desire for Oh Aew.

They both are struggling, they are teenagers at a time where everything feels all consuming, fatal and final. This results in pain, sheer emotional turmoil which leads to some bad choices but eventually growth.

IPYTM continues the story of growth, but this time it changes the underlying support structure. No longer are they teens, but young adults, in a new city chasing dreams that are changing as quickly as they themselves are. Struggling with change is very much the theme of IPTYM and highlights the difficulties of a young relationship under pressures, both internal and external.

I was so in my feelings the whole time. I cried so much over the course of these two stories. I did watch them back to back, so I did not have to wait for the second series to come out. The sheer quality of acting from PP Krit and Billkin in this series is just astounding to me. It’s not easy to portray those kinds of growing turbulent emotions. I was so proud of Oh-aew’s development throughout the series, he had to put up with a lot (especially through IPYTM) and still was a kind hearted and good person. Teh had a lot of growing up to do, as well all did in our teens and early twenties, but I think he was made a better person by Oh-aew, and did eventually realise it. I think Teh gets a lot of fandom hate because Oh-aew is so beloved - but I didn’t find his behaviour to be completely out of character either. Teh was consistent, in his wants and goals, and that was challenged in IPYTM when oh-Aew began to truly learn about himself and his wants. Change is incredibly hard, and choices and mistakes were made. Hurt was very much present across all levels of his show, but pain is a part of life. "To err is human, to forgive, divine."

Billkin and PP Krit really did act these roles with 100% of their being. I am looking forward to all they do in their careers moving forward.
