In the end, I guess Innocent couldn't help but fall foul of the inherent limitations of the basic whodunnit structure. Because the culprit has to make sense, and can't be introduced out of left field right at the end, any denouement can't help but feel anticlimactic, as the possible suspects have been whittled down. It's a fundamentally flawed way of creating suspense, and I wish creators would just leave it in the past where it belongs. That said, there were a couple of fine moments towards the end, especially the final scene with the two Collins brothers. The jumbled mess of feelings leading to an eye-of-the-storm kind of intimacy between the two of them was beautiful, in its own way.
