Oof. The Disney Channel energy sure is strong in this one! Man! (Which, you know, Kenny Ortega... HSM... Makes total sense).
The music? Great. The acting? Eh, not so much. Guess they prioritized musical experience when they did the casting.
The band, I absolutely loved. I don't know if it was all four of the actors actually singing, but they all have great voices. However, I actually ended up skipping Julie's song because I just hated how they broke the immersion by adding full accompaniment when it was only supposed to be a piano playing. Plus, the lipsynching was very, very obvious and I didn't like how she was playing a song for the very first time, yet she didn't need to look at sheet music or anything. Was just jamming with her eyes closed. I would have very much appreciated it if they'd tried to make that scene at least a tiny bit realistic and believable. I know asking for the music to be shot/recorded "live" is unreasonable, but at the very least make an effort to make it seem real.
If I'm being honest, I don't really have very high hopes. But, I randomly came across the song "Unsaid Emily" from this show and absolutely loved it, so I guess I'll give it a fair chance and watch a few more episodes before deciding whether to drop it or not.
