[7.3/10] I’m on record as not loving the Greek mythology-focused episodes, but this one had two wrinkles that I liked.
The first is Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl patching things up. To be fair, the episode doesn’t really do much to earn that. It shows them working together and possessing a mutual respect, but doesn’t really lay the groundwork for why their frostiness dissipates. There’s a little something about Shayera seeing Diana’s humanity and Diana appreciating Shayera’s abilities, but it’s pretty thin. Maybe it’s just the time they spend together. Either way, I like the show at least trying to process their bad blood rather than pretending it’s not there. (And Flash’s failed attempt to bring them together was a laugh.)
The other is that this time, the two of them are traipsing around hell. It lets the show’s animators get a little creative with creepy demons and flaming skeletons. It also allows the show to pick up a little continuity from where it left off in “Paradise Lost.” The continuing rivalry between Faust and Hades in Hell is a solid one, and I like the (admittedly semi-convenient) reveal that Faust was involved with Tala. Watching the two heroes fight their way through a realm of eternal torment has its charms, and their disgust for both sides of the battle between Faust and the god of the Underworld, despite the necessity of restoring order, is a neat detail.
That said, I don’t really care about the Wonder Woman mythos stuff here. Her mom just randomly giving her an upgrade to her powers seems pretty weird. The show also already implied that Hades was her dad, so that’s no great reveal.
Overall, these sorts of episodes are unlikely to ever become my favorites, but this one has more going for it than most, most notably the repairing of the relationship between Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman.
