The revelation that everything is an illusion is what makes this story - and even though the last episode's foreshadowing about it was pretty obvious, I do think this arc is decent.
It's kind of funny to be reminded of how campy and kinda dumb superhero comics were back in the 50's and 60's.
They do gloss over how the townspeople were able to live for 40 years, but they ultimately don't matter. Could've made them part of the illusion and the episode would remain almost entirely unchanged.
At minimum, it doesn't have the same rushed pacing as the early episodes - and that's quite nice.
