A little weak as an intro, and introducing way more clichés than the book. FX look a little cheap. And not used wisely (the lightnning when he gets the sword ? Was that really useful ?)
There's a huge change compared to the book: Richard does not know about the book beforehand. This changes a lot of things, including the main storyline. Wonder how they deal with that.

This one opens really strong, but does finish in a rather cliché manner; however, from memory, the first season really picks up.

On a personal note, having grown up without a father, I never really connect with filial relationships and clichés in works of fiction, but I found the last scene with Richard and his father, before he went off to team up with Kahlan and Zed, to be rather touching.
