Life comes to an end in Season 2 thanks to the untimely pregnancy of Sarah Shahi (kind of). With the man who committed the murders he was convicted of now behind bars Detective Charlie Crews ramps up his investigation into the men who were behind the conspiracy to set him up; meanwhile his partner begins a relationship with the new captain but is soon drawn into Crews investigation. Unfortunately due to her pregnancy Shahi is sidelined in the last third of the season with Gabrielle Union stepping in as Crew’s new partner. And, the conspiracy subplot is rushed in the last few episodes (perhaps sensing the show’s impending cancellation). However, the cases-of-the-week are pretty interesting and the writers do a good job at building suspense and intrigue. Donal Logue and Jessy Schram join the cast, and a number of impressive guest stars are featured, including William Atherton, Tessa Thompson, Lauren Cohan, Marguerite Moreau, and Richard Speight Jr. While Season 2 of Life hits a few stumbling blocks, overall it’s a compelling police drama that’s full of mystery and thrills; and deserved better from NBC.
