There are procedures for school field trips, and one of them is making sure the student head count is correct before the bus leaves. I call BS on the Matt/Lanny subplot.
I'm guessing the same music replacement was done for the DVDs as for iTunes (as @ithinkdifferent mentioned), because some of the music doesn't sound right to me.
