Even after all the insight into their history, why don't we know the Man in Black's real name?
A great episode, where you'll start sympathizing with the MiB and less for Jacob.
I started to like MiB over Jacob tbh, that was sad really.
This show is amazing, I can't believe how coherent and robust it is!
Some explanation finally, I feel terribly sorry for MiB :(
There's a reason why filmmakers like David Lynch don't explain things. You could end up disappointing the audience when you offer so basic answers like this retelling of the story of Cain and Abel.
This was one of the only episodes of this show I didn't really care for, I felt we could've done without it in the end. Sometimes I rather have things implied then explained, and when the explanation for a lot of things was "Because the crazy lady said so" it probably would've just went better not being shown.
Cracking episode; explained alot here... finally!
A LOT of information, loved the flashback to season 1.

So the Man in Black (Jacob's Brother) doesn't have a name, he never did because his (biological) mom didn't know that there were going to be two, so she didn't have a name and he never got one. He was just simply Jacob's Brother.
