A series I do not quite understand all the good criticism it gets. It's because of Odenkirk, isn't it? How can you negatively criticize something with Odenkirk in it? It must be great, no matter what.

It's well acted, of course. The general idea of the setup is nice. But Hank, the centerpiece of all of this, is an unlikable, petty, self-absorbed, self-hating a-hole. He has all the knowledge about everything but never shares anything with anyone and belittles them for not being as smart as he is given the chance. He is not just a flawed character with obvious unresolved traumas trying to get by, he is quite exhausting to follow around in this.
The side characters, except for Hank's wife Lily, do not exist on their own either. It's all about Hank (or at least somehow connected to him).
It's like Hank deliberately bottles everything up inside up to a point where he has it all coming out at once somehwere down the line. But I do not think the way they portray this is particularly interesting, nor funny, nor enganging. With a few exceptions it's rather quite boring and pointless, leading pretty much nowhere.

Some really fun guest stars on this one, making it the first episode of the series I actually enjoyed. Plus, we actually got a little bit of development in both the characters and their relationships. Normally I have a three-episode rule before I buy in or cash out, but the sheer potential of the cast made me break that rule. Maybe that's a good thing? We'll see how the next episode goes.
