[7.2/10] Well, at least they didn’t spend too much time pretending that Doc Ock had reformed. It went overboard into “the lady doth protest too much” stages here. The reveal that this whole shebang was a plot to gain access to the neuro cortex to gain telekinesis is...something? It’s not bad, honestly. It comes off as convoluted, between hiring the Wild Bunch, tricking Carolyn Trainer, and using the rest of Peter’s scoobies as neural circuits or something. But I’ve seen more elaborate villain schemes.
The female Doc Ock isn’t bad. Her arc is a little simple here, and her obsession with Otto isn’t as funny as the show seems to think it is. But I appreciate that she gets to help save the day once she realizes Ock was using her. At the same time, while a familiar trope, the Scoobies using their brain power to reverse the polarity or what have you and turn the energy back on Otto is a nice touch too. Sure, it’s the usual villain beatdown, but there’s some color and energy to it which is nice.
I also appreciated the fact that Peter is still scrounging for tuition money to stay at Horizon. The fact that he has to compromise his reputation and dignity as Spider-Man (by selling Spidey videos to an outlet he knows will use them again him), in order to preserve his life as Peter Parker is a really interesting touch. It’s the kind of tough, “it doesn't all just work out” sort of story I like being told in the Spider-Verse.
Overall, this is a quick end (or quick middle) of the recent Doc Ock saga, which has its ups and down, but the parts focused on Peter’s struggle elevate it a bit.
