Decent episode. The stars of this series have been Paul and Bev. Amazing performances from both.
The best thing about this series is that it clearly originated in a late night stoned conversation about how the only people obsessed with eternal life and drinking blood are vampires and Catholics.
Loved this episode and the church scene at the end. TENSE!!! However this is the first episode where it had some silly parts in it. Such as Riley's father reading the note about father Paul and then going straight to father Paul. It's like reading about Jack the rippers crimes and then visiting that friendly neighbour in White chapel named Jack and discussing your findings.
The fact that everyone went to the Church that heard about or from Riley was truly confusing.
The cop saying he is hesitant to chase up a case because certain people are racist makes me wonder why he is a cop if he is not willing to do his job.
However this series has been fantastic and this is the first real complaint I have about characters actions.
Am I the only one rooting for Bev's demise so that she will just. Stop. Talking!
That church scene is one of the most incredible things I have ever watched on TV.
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you Mike Flanagan.
Brilliant episode. The acting, the monologues, the end scenes. It’s like all was built up to this moment. Mike Flanagan is truly one of a kind of story teller.
Bev being shot was the single most satisfying moment in this whole series, even if it only lasted a minute. Thank you Erin for doing what we've all been yearning for the past 5 episodes.
This episode was pretty much everything that was to be expected, which certainly worked in its favor. The dread that comes with the knowledge of the inevitable. Good stuff. It also displayed perfectly why I'd never move to a small island.
One thing I don't get, what was the plan for the people that don't/haven't recently taken communion? Clearly there were people there just for "the surprise"TM, those that only go to church on Christmas/Easter, kids who are still too young, and non-Christians. Sure Bev doesn't care, but the Father doesn't seem like the type to have them die as an F U or out of carelessness.
The tension in this episode was almost too much to bear. I kind of loved it but I also hated it somehow.
What a .. massacre.
Of course they'd shut them all off from the mainland, but still, what is the endgame? I had wondered earlier - either use the island as food, or make a vampire army. So I suppose it's army. But now there won't be any food left for them, so they'll have to go to the mainland to eat, aka "spread the gospel".
Maybe they'll say so in the next episode, but at this point it's really this big question of whether it's all just fanatism that just works very well for the "angel", or whether, in that story's reality, vampires really ARE angels, and the whole books and myths of christianity are really based off of that - vampires.
Well we had the one educated atheist already die off and choosing death rather than continuing the madness, but his opinion now sorely lacks.
The way I'm seeing it, is that this is a rather nice twist of how dangerous fanatism can be, in the "wrong" hands. It wasn't even ill intent to start with - Pruitt truly believed he had been blessed and it was all a gift from god. But when it arrived at Bev, with her fanatic mind... meeting the psycho bitch she is, that doesn't bode too well. So I think this is a story of "Fanatism going VERY VERY badly", but who knows. Maybe vampires are a gift of god.
I wonder whether they'll reveal who the "angel" truly is. I mean he never speaks, but somehow he and Pruitt etc are communicating. Otherwise why get dressed up and stand in front of the altar like that. And he found him in some ancient tomb...? Maybe he's one of the original apostles.
... Maybe he's Jesus. He has risen indeed. Sexy.
What an episode.. Intense.
Really thought Bev was f*cked....we still have to deal with her blah blah blah....
Welp, Flanagan's done it again. I'm both terrified and crying about family.
THAT WAS INSAAANE!! I LOVE IT
Um, I'll say this, they shot Bev and had an entire wall of candles to knock to the ground and set that place ablaze...Not very intelligent are they.
10mins into the episode and i feel something like the red wedding is incoming.......
7/10
Good episode
albeit with some
stupid scenes that made
me shout at the tv.
Riley's Dad going
straight to Paul
for real no trick plan,
then Erin's conversation
with Riley's Mom,
and what do you think
the reaction would be,
Then the Sheriff let
ne down just a little
bit, writing definitely
took a dip with the
above mentioned.
Bev 2.0 is thrashing my
Head, I heard enough
Scripture to last me
a bloody lifetime.
Right ready to rap
this up with the show
Finale.
I guess the takeaway from this one is that things can escalate quickly when people start to wing it.

rahul is generally incredible, but the monologue he gives in this is just next level.
