The dialogue can be quite stilted at times, and how do you start off a series like this by killing off your best character! Seriously, you have a mysteriously smug and wealthy coroner in a community that's full of an entire franchise worth of murder. Don't waste that!
Otherwise, fantastic cast of professionals. Finely directed. Paints the players of the small town well with a good series of mysteries upon mysteries that grow increasingly brutal and twisted as they go along. I can see why this caught on with how cleverly it juggles the brutality, humor, and rustic charm.
